Description:
In today’s morning Satsang, Paramahamsa Nithyananda elaborates on the world’s most worshipped deity – Mother Ganga. She is the embodiment of love, completion, pure inner space and divinity. She landed on the planet earth to give completion to all of humanity. She has the power to heal us of any deep incompletions just by spending some time living near Her. Spiritual practice is increased a thousand fold when practiced next to Her. Let us all appreciate, worship and protect this ancient, sacred waterway – the Ganges.

I welcome all of you with my love and respects. Today, I will continue to expand on the different great characters of Mahabharata and the great sacred secrets explained in the Mahabharata.
Today is the sixth day of the twenty-third Inner Awakening, Level-2 second day.
Yesterday we all had a session on the banks of the Ganga. Understand, Ganga is the great-grandmother of the Mahabharata. Bhishma is the "Pitamaha" "grandfather" of Mahabharata. Ganga is the mother of Bhishma. Actually, Ganga is, in a way, father and mother, both, of Bhishma, because Shantanu (Bhishma's father) did not bring up Bhishma. So, Ganga is the great-grandmother of Mahabharata. It is on the laps of the Ganges, it is on the banks of the Ganges, the whole Mahabharata started. Even just sitting on the banks of the Ganga heals us so much!
Yesterday there was nothing; we didn't have big lessons or sessions; just some questions and answers, spending some time together; almost like getting to know each other and just sitting on the banks of the Ganga for half-an-hour or one hour. So much! I tell you, I HAPPENED on the banks of the Ganga! Please understand, I took birth in Tiruvannamalai, but I HAPPENED, I blossomed on the banks of the Ganga! Ganga is such a powerful energy!
Ganga! Ganga is a River of Knowledge, River of Enlightenment! There are some shlokas which say "Just by drinking the water of Ganga you can get enlightened"! May be, when I was immature, I would have suspected, I would have doubted and felt that all these verses are out of demotion and devotion. But, after becoming a mature being, an incarnation, I will not dare to doubt these verses! I will only say they are literally true! With all my Integrity and Authenticity, I can speak with my Integrity and Authenticity, just by living around the Ganga, just by drinking the water of the Ganga, just by even remembering the Ganga's sacredness, one can become enlightened, because it is such a powerful technique, powerful method, powerful process! Don't think that just because I am on the banks of the Ganga I am floored by the Ganga and I am blabbering something. No! Ganga heals all the violence we carry, Ganga heals all the incompletions we carry. See, lust is an incompletion, anger is an incompletion, violence is an incompletion; all the incompletiions we carry, Ganga can purify, Ganga can really, really purify!
I used to sit on the banks of the Ganga. Just seeing, I have realized oneness with Ganga. How the things float on the waters of the Ganga but do not pollute the Ganga, same way, I have seen the thoughts and incompletions floating in my inner-space do not make my inner-space polluted, they do not touch my inner-space. When you understand your incompletions are not powerful enough to make your inner-space incomplete, you become eternally complete. I can say, that experience I received from the Ganga, on the banks of the Ganga. It heals, heals, heals and brings love. Really, Ganga can bring tremendous love in our heart. I was wondering, can this Ganga have influence, special effects even on me who is always in the enlightened consciousness?
But, I tell you with Integrity and Authenticity, it has! I may be, by default, residing in the enlightened consciousness, in my incarnation-hood; but even in me that kindling happens! From yesterday evening, I am all excited, as if I am in puppy love. Even mature love has lots of pros and cons, we have lots of thinking through, pros and cons: whether it will work out or not. Puppy love is the most sweetest love in life where you don't have any responsibility or ideas of making it work. I can say, from yesterday evening, I am in that space, as if I am seeing Ganga for the first time! Ganga's character in the Mahabharata is embodiment of Love and pure inner-space. From pure inner-space, dharma is born, understand. From the pure inner-space, dharma is born. That is why, they portray that Bhishma is born out of Ganga. But Dharma (Bhishma) should not go and sit with Self-Denial (Duryodhana) and eat the food of Self-Denial. From the beginning, you should not allow Self-Denial to be associated with you, with dharma, because Self-Denial sometimes becomes so powerful, it binds, it makes even dharma forget its purpose. Even Bhishma has to give up on himself and others because of the power of Self-Denial, Duryodhana. Such a powerful demon, Self-Denial!
But, when all the blood in Bhishma left his body, all the Self-Denial is completed, he feels thirsty and asks, when he was in the arrow-bed, he asks Arjuna, 'Can you get a little water?' Arjuna then shoots an arrow into the ground and Ganga comes out and fills Bhishma again. Means, if your Self-Denial is completed, again the pure inner-space awakens in you. Then Ganga fills Bhishma again, he lives in the complete space of dharma, and leaves the body when he wanted, as he wanted. Actually, Ganga is the first and foremost character in the Mahabharata. Because her "screen space" is very less, after Bhishma's birth, after she hands over Bhishma to Shantanu, she has not interefered in the story much. So we forgot her. Otherwise, Ganga is the great-grandmother of Mahabharata, almost the first character in the Mahabharata. Shantanu is born as "Shivamsha" (part of Shiva). That is why, with that Shiva Amsha only, Ganga lives. How can Ganga live with anybody else? Shantanu is born with Shivamsha. With that Shivamsha, she (Ganga) lives, gives birth to the Ashta Vasus. To the Ashta Vasus, she gives birth. The whole mess of the layers and layers of socio-political personalities and characters, the pure inner-space is pushed back. And Ganga, Ganga is not just a river, collection of water; it is the largest living deity! She is not just a river. There is no other deity, no hill, no other physical body on the Planet Earth which is worshipped by so many millions of people.
This statement I can make with all my Integrity and Authenticity: There is no deity which is worshipped by so many millions of people like Ganga is! Even the Himalayas is not worshipped by so many millions like Ganga is! See, largest worshipped deities on the Planet Earth: Tirupathi Venkateshwara, Arunachala, Himalayas, Ganga, if you see the whole list, understand, if you see the whole list, Tirupati Venkateshwara, Sabarimalai Ayyappa, Arunachala, Ganga, Himalayas, nothing can be even compared to Ganga, because the number of people worshipping it, the millions of people remembering it! The last few days, whenever I have the time to sit on the banks of the Ganga, I see even the local people, with so much of reverence they just come and sprinkle the water and go, just to do namaskar to Ganga!
I tell you, the largest worshipped deity is Ganga! The largest worshipped single deity on the Planet Earth is Ganga! Ganga is such an embodiment of divinity! Actually, Ganga lands on the Planet Earth to complete everyone. The very context for her coming to Planet Earth is for Completion. Bhagiratha's forefathers were incomplete, and to complete them Bhagiratha brings Ganga to Planet Earth. For the sake of Completion only, Ganga even comes to Planet Earth. So, she is the pure inner-space, completing everyone continuously.
I have a question from Jnanatma: 'Swamiji, Bhishma gave word to his father Shantanu and followed Integrity till the end of his life. However, I feel, Hastinapur would have been saved if he had broken his word and taken the higher dharma of becoming King of Hastinapur. Which one is better, keeping the word just because he gave, or breaking the word and becoming king and saving Hastinapur...?'
Swamiji: First thing, if Bhishma had broken his word, he would not have been "Bhishma". Neither he would have been a great King of Hastinapur, nor he would have been able to protect dharma. If he had had a son, that fellow would have been ten times worse than Duryodhana, because he is born out of incompletion. He would have been embodiment of Gandhari, Dhritarashtra, Shakuni, Duryodhana put together. At least, now, these fellows are separate, separate; all the time they cannot be together to conspire. If Bhishma had had a son, he would have had the brain of Shakuni, heart of Gandhari, stomach of Dhritarashtra and prana of Duryodhana. Understand, Self-Doubt always starts with stomach, and Self-Hatred always starts with brain, Self-Destruction always starts in your heart, and Self-Denial becomes your prana, breathing. If you see, all these four were killed exactly at those points -- by the heart broken only Gandhari dies; with the stomach problem only Dhritarashtra died; his stomach collapsed and Dhritarashtra died; and for Shakuni, he was hit on the head by Bhima and he was killed; and for Duryodhana, his prana was on his thigh, and the thigh was broken for the prana release; it is by hitting his prana, Duryodhana was killed -- because those qualities sit in those areas.
Understand, first thing, fulfilling the word you give is the highest purpose. By not breaking the word, Bhishma has done maximum possible good to Hastinapura. If he had broken his word, the son would have been a disaster; nothing would have been left after him; he would have wiped the whole earth away! Because, a personality like Bhishma, breaking his word would have only caused disaster to Planet Earth. If anybody breaks their word, it will only be more and more incompletion; they can never be in the space of Completion. Yudhishtira did not break his word, but broke the spirit of the word. When he uttered the word "Ashwatthama died" -- he uttered the word "Ashwatthama, the elephant, died"; exactly at the moment when the words "the elephant" was being uttered, at that exact time, Krishna blew his conch (the sound of the conch drowned the words "the elephant"; so Drona, Ashwatthama's father heard only the words "Ashwatthama died").
Technically, Yudhishtira did not drop his Integrity; but actually he was part of the conspiracy. Immediately, his inner-space which was always floating above the earth, fell to the ground. The story says very clearly, his (Yudhishtira's) chariot always used to be floating above the earth, but it now landed on the floor, on the earth! This concept yesterday night I was explaining to all my sannyasis.
Actually, because of the "Ganga effect" only, yesterday I was sitting with my sannyasis; See, this, actually the matter you see around you is Bhu Loka. Matter is not reality; matter is matter. That is Bhu Loka, Planet Earth - the walls around you, the floor under you, the roof above you. How it occurs to you is the reality. If you think you cannot go out of this room, you are caught, whole day you are made to sit here, then you feel 'Oh, God!', this is the "Prison Effect". It occurs as a hell to you, lower frequency. But if you think, feel 'Wow! What a beautiful space! Whole day I am allowed to sit here in the presence of Swamiji! Many people in the street are not allowed to sit, but I am allowed to sit. And this building also protects me from the cold and allows me to experience Swamiji's presence!', then, this same building occurs to you in a higher reality. This place becomes like a protection and gift for you. Then this same hall is Svar Loka, higher loka, Tapa Loka.
Please understand, the same matter, how it occurs to you is reality - whether it occurs to you lower than its existence or higher than its existence. If it occurs to you lower than its existence, your life will be hell, suffering, incompletion. If it occurs to you higher than its existence, your life will be heaven, joyful, complete. I tell you, Ganga can complete any lower occurrences you have. Ganga can complete any incompletion you have. I can give this as an authentic spiritual practice. Actually, just for this I want to create an ashram on the banks of the Ganga! Anybody on the Planet Earth, if they have some incompletions that they are not able to complete, strong incompletions, just go and spend time on the banks of the Ganga, drinking Ganga water, eating food cooked with Ganga water. Whenever you find time, morning and evening, sit on the lap of the Ganga, sleep in the breeze of the Ganga.
I tell you with all my Integrity and Authenticity, Ganga will complete you, because even the people who are dead, their incompletions, lower occurrences, their incompletions she has completed! And you are ALIVE! She can enter into you, your muscle-memory, bio-memory, bio-energy and complete you! Do pranayama on the banks of the Ganga; that Ganga prana will go into you. Eat food cooked in Ganga water, live on the banks of the Ganga, sit on the banks of the Ganga and meditate, sleep on the banks of the Ganga in the breeze, enjoy the weather on the banks of the Ganga, I tell you, she can complete you! That is why, many sadhus who live here, even if they don't do any spiritual practices, they will become liberated, they will become Jivan Mukthas, just because of Ganga's effect to complete. She is here to complete, complete, complete! I will make an ashram specially for Completion! Anybody can stay here and achieve Completion. Anything she will complete! You have a strong anger pattern, lust pattern, violence pattern, anything she will complete, because she is the embodiment of Completion!
See the context for which she came to Planet Earth, the purpose itself is for Completion! Jagan Matha! I can say, she is Jagan Matha (Mother of the Universe), because only when she landed, the fixed source of water on Planet Earth happened. Before her, only a little bit here and there, and underground water, was used for life to exist. It is only after her landing on Planet Earth that life became "lifestyle" on Planet Earth. Understand, life becoming lifestyle is done by Ganga Ma. What an amazing purpose! Originally she lives in the world of Gods.
Bhagiratha does tapas and asks Ganga Ma to land on Planet Earth. When Ganga agrees to come to earth to complete the ancestors of Bhagiratha, then there was the fear that her power, when she lands, Planet Earth may not be hold, Bhooma Devi (Mother Earth) may not be able to hold her. Then, again, Bhagiratha calls Mahadeva for help. Mahadeva says, 'Alright.' He puts his head when the Ganga lands on the Planet Earth. Then Ganga Maiyya, Ganga Matha enters into Mahadeva's hair, matted locks, and she starts enjoying his presence, his intense intimacy. She is there having vacation, enjoying Mahadeva's presence. Mahadeva's Sahasrara (Crown Center) is filled with Amrita (nectar) of Enlightenment -- Sahasraramrita. She was enjoying that amrita and started living there. Here this poor fellow Bhagiratha is begging her, 'Come, come, come. You are having your honeymoon....' She was literally having moon and honey together! Having honeymoon, not coming down! Moon is there on one side, honey is there on Mahadeva's Sahasrara, and she is having honeymoon with him!
And then, again, Bhagiratha does tapas to Mahadeva. Mahadeva wakes up and says, 'Oh, I forgot she is here. I will allow her.' Then he unties his matted locks and allows a few streams to come out. Those streams are only Bhagirathi, Alakananda, all those different streams....Mandakini, all those different streams, including Yamuna. Yamuna is not a separate river. In course of time, for geographical purpose, we named it as Yamuna, because for more time she is running as a separate stream and then joined. See, Bhagirathi, Alakananda, they all joined, they all joined after a few hundred kilometres. But Yamuna ran a few thousand kilometres and joined in Prayag. That's all! Otherwise all are same streams only.
So, Alakananda and Bhagiratha joined in Dev Prayag within 16 km. But Yamuna joins a few thousand more kilometres She joins in Maha Prayag. So, understand she starts running... Yamuna joins after 800 miles (1376 kms / 855 miles).
Otherwise, if you see the origins, in origin all of them are almost same distance only. The distance between the Alakananda's origin and Bhagirathi's origin, and the Bhagirathi's origin and Yamuna's origin, are all same distance only, not much difference. Anyhow, she (Ganga) starts flowing. And the funny thing, one great Rishi, Jahnu Maharshi, is doing tapas in the Himalayas. In the flow, in the speed of her flow, Ganga started melting the Shiva Linga which Jahnu Maharshi had made. Jahnu Maharshi had made a Shiva Linga in the sand. Ganga was flowing so fast, she started dissolving the Shiva Linga. This fellow (Jahnu Maharshi) did not bother even for a second. He just swallowed the whole Ganga!
Please understand, even to hold Ganga, Shiva has to bend his head down. But this fellow (Jahnu Maharshi) just swallowed the whole Ganga. This means Shiva bhaktas are more powerful than Shiva. No! This story - Shiva Bhaktas are more powerful than Shiva. He just swallowed the whole Ganga. Drinks the whole Ganga, saying you are so voilent and arrogant you don't bother that i am doing the Puja! It's like old man treating a small girl.. 'You are jumping around a lot, a small girl! Come on!' So he just swallows her! Then Bhagiratha prays to Jahnu Maharshi. 'Please, please, for my sake, you allow her (set her free); because my ancestors ashes are all lying; so she has to purify it.' Then Jahnu Maharshi says, 'Alright', and he touches his ears and allows the Ganga to come out. That is why she has the name Jahnavi. Ganga has the name Jahnavi. She is called Jahnavi; means, Daughter of Jahnu Maharshi. That is why, during some rituals, the Brahmins touch their ears to purify themselves.
Because the Ganga is flowing out of the ears, she will purify you when you touch your ears, they become pure. The shastra says, by just remembering Ganga, you are purified, you are complete! Even by remembering the Ganga, you become pure! That is what is the tradition. Actually, the origin of the Bhagirathi and Alakananda, the distance between them, and the Bhagirathi and Yamunotri, the distance between them, both are one and the same. But the Bhagairathi and Alakananda join very quickly, and Ganga and Yamuna join a little late; that's all. So, Ganga, she comes out of Jahnu's ears. Then the story says, Bhagiratha does not want to leave Ganga alone. He himself guides her. Then Ganga washes the ashes of Bhagiratha's ancestors, completes Bhagiratha's ancestors, and she gives a boon to Bhagiratha, 'I will be available on the Planet Earth forever completing everyone and all incompletions.' Embodiment of Poornathwa, Ganga Matha! Embodiment of Poornathwa, Embodiment of Completion! So beautiful! All you guys are fortunate who are doing your Completion on the banks of the Ganga! In the breathing space of Ganga you are doing your Completion!
The tradition says, "Sadhana done on the Ganges bank brings thousands of times more result!" It is true! Ganga Matha is such powerful energy, such powerful energy, such great energy! The largest worshipped deity is Ganga! She is the Kalpataru for Planet Earth. Whatever, whoever wants, she goes on showering! She is like a mother. Physically also she gives what you want, and physically also she showers what you want. Actually, instead of putting our faith on any deity made of stone, we can put it on Ganga, because that is more relevant, more relevant. Wherever Ganga is not there, as a substitute you can have stone deities and metal deities. All deities are substitutes of Ganga, but if Ganga is there, nothing else is required, nothing more is required. The largest embodiment of the Divine, Ganga!
I commit with Ganga Matha, Ganga Maiyya, with all my Integrity and Authenticity, I will strive to put my best efforts to keep her clean and stop the pollution happening from external sources. Of course, internally nobody can pollute her; she is as pure as herself; you cannot compare her purity with anything else. But these external impurities being dumped on her! Many parts of the Ganga, the common man is not able to use it for drinking and taking bath because of the external pollution. I will work to stop that. It is my commitment to Ganga Matha! We should protect Ganga Matha from getting polluted. The pollutions of our lifestyle, corruption of our mind, we are trying to dump it on Ganga. She is a Kalpataru.
Come on! Meditate on Mother Ganga. Let Mother Ganga be a Kalptaru. I have also decided that on the banks of the Ganga we will find a place and make an ashram and plant our Banyan Tree here! So, Ganga and Kalpataru together! Sit straight. Close your eyes. Cognize that Ganga Matha, the Kalpataru energy is healing you all, healing all of us. Create a deep prayerful mood, prayerful space, deeply pray to Ganga to awaken your Kundalini Shakthi and make your inner-space blissful and make what you want as reality. Pray to Ganga Matha.
NamahShivaya!
