Festive display of deity murtis in a gilded arched shrine framed by deep red drapes and a blue-and-maroon canopy. A dark-faced central standing murti wears a tall crown, white and silver necklaces, and garlands of red, pink and white flowers, holding a raised staff-like object. Two seated gold-toned murtis in green and red garments with flower garlands sit before it, one holding a small ritual item. Pink hibiscus, yellow and orange marigolds and blossoms are arranged on the altar in front. A sliver of a human hand appears at the lower left edge. No physical people are the main subject; the scene is a worship arrangement at a temple during Navaratri.

On Occasion of Day 5 of NAVARATRI, Annapoorneshwari Alankaram, Aarati & Puja was performed, followed by Lalitha Sahasranamam Archana. Devi Annapoorna is the Goddess of Nourishment.

Parvati was told by her consort Shiva that the world is an illusion and that food is a part of this illusion called māyā. The Divine Mother who is worshiped as the manifestation of all material things, including food, became angry. To demonstrate the importance of her manifestation of all that is material, she disappeared from the world. Her disappearance brought time to a standstill and the earth became barren. There was no food to be found anywhere, and all the beings suffered from the pangs of hunger.

Seeing all the suffering, Mother Parvati was filled with compassion and reappeared in Kashi and set up a kitchen. Hearing about her return, Shiva ran to her and presented his bowl in alms, saying, “Now I realize that the material world, like the spirit, cannot be dismissed as an illusion.” Parvati smiled and fed Shiva with her own hands. Since then Parvati is worshiped as Annapurna, the goddess of Nourishment.
