A man in a white short-sleeved shirt and white dhoti leans over a reclining wooden figure lying on a dark workbench, carving or finishing its face with a small tool. The figure is a dark-brown wooden sculpture of a reclining human form with bare legs and feet. Two carving knives with yellow handles lie on the table, a small white paper cup sits nearby, and a black chair stands against a pale concrete wall with a striped cloth hanging above. Wood shavings are scattered on the floor.2013-07-04A close photograph of a sculpted wooden or clay figure's lower body, shown from the front seated posture: thighs, knees and bare feet with toes, glossy dark brown with orange-brown highlights and scattered wood shavings on a dark work table. Only a partial person is visible at the top edge, a hand resting on the figure's hip and a white-clad arm and lap, so the visible human is a craftsman or assistant, not an identifiable figure. The figure is an unfinished carving, not a finished murti.2013-07-01April 28 20152015-04-28September 04 20132013-09-04A man in a white sleeveless vest stands behind a dark work table in a plain whitewashed room, holding up a small polished gold-coloured metal figure of a standing deity with a tall crown, a halo-like disc behind the head and raised arms holding objects. Around him on the table are rough brown clay or mud sculpture pieces, including a large clay figure with a curved trunk-like form, an elephant-headed or animal-headed form, and other unfinished limbs. An orange plastic bucket sits at left and a small fire or burning incense stick glows near the table's base. The scene shows an idol-making workshop with clay modelling and casting in progress.2013-06-24December 06 20092009-12-06A photograph of an unfinished wooden figure of a standing male deity murti lying on a dark workbench in a workshop. The figure has a tall tiered topknot, a carved face with closed eyes, bare chest and arms that are still partly unshaped, and a rough, glossy brown finish. Carving tools with yellow and black handles lie to the right, and a partially visible hand with a white sleeve rests at the left edge. Dust and debris cover the floor. No people are fully visible, and the setting is a sculptor's workshop rather than a ritual event.2013-07-04A photograph of metal casting work outdoors on a dusty ground with scattered ash and charcoal. Two bare hands of a worker in a white shirt press and shape a dark wax or clay mould of a seated animal figure, reddish-brown at the head and dark brown on the body, resting on a wooden board. Burnt bricks, a dark crucible or pot and a sack lie nearby. Only the worker's hands and forearms and the edge of his white shirt are visible.2006-12-10Outdoor photo of clay and terracotta sculpture pieces lying on a rough wooden plank amid broken clay chunks and dust. Several orange-brown carved forms with incised patterned surfaces, including a head-like piece with a crown-shaped top, a shell-like curved piece, and larger wet dark clay sections, sit on the plank. A pair of red-handled pliers lies at lower left.2009-09-06A photograph of a large dark brown wooden sculpture lying horizontally on a black work surface in a dim workshop. The carved figure is seen from above with arms and legs extended, its head at right with carved facial features, and the glossy surface shows a light sheen. A pair of carving tools with yellow handles and a black chair are at the upper left, and a partially visible person's bare legs and white cloth appear at the top edge. No one is seated on the figure; the sculpture is being worked on.2013-07-04April 28 20152015-04-28A photograph of artisans sculpting a clay figure of Ganesha, the elephant-headed deity, in a plain whitewashed workshop. The unfinished murti is brown-tan, with an elephant trunk and four arms holding a rod and a rounded object. A bare-chested man in a white vest sits at the right, a man in a checked red-and-white shirt leans in from the lower left and works on the base with his hands, and a third man in a white shirt and pink lungi stands behind the murti shaping its body. Clay tools and wet clay lie on a wooden table.2013-06-23
