December 21 20072007-12-21December 21 20072007-12-21Night outdoor scene on a paved courtyard strung with rows of small multicolored fairy lights. A tall figure with long dark hair stands centre-front in a bright orange-saffron dhoti and a red-orange upper cloth, barefoot on the ground, with a long dark mala-style necklace. Around him, roughly a dozen men in white dhotis and white shirts, many wearing orange shawls and beaded necklaces, stand in loose formation looking ahead, while a man in a checked shirt stands at right. A white van and a low white building with lit doorways sit in the background. Appearance-based candidate is a person, given his long hair, saffron clothing and beaded necklace, but the image is ambiguous.2007-12-21Night outdoor gathering on a bare concrete ground lit by string lights strung across the scene. A central figure with long, loose dark hair wears an orange-saffron garment over a red top and stands barefoot with palms pressed together at the chest. Around him, a crowd of devotees in white dhotis and white kurtas, many with orange shawls or scarves draped over their shoulders, and some women in white sarees with orange and gold borders stand in rows facing him. A man in a dark blue jacket and white dhoti stands at right, and a white van is parked at left beside a low building. Participants wear rudraksha-style beaded necklaces. The event appears to be a devotional gathering in progress.2007-12-21Night photo of a courtyard in front of a whitewashed building with a stepped platform and a doorway hung with colourful streamers. Strings of lights run along the roofline. Around eight people stand on the concrete ground looking upward: a man in a blue jacket and white dhoti at left, a man in a checked shirt, a woman in a white sari with a pink border, and several men in white dhotis with orange shawls. In the centre a woman in an orange sari with a red blouse stands with hands on hips. Right of the steps a man in white with an orange shawl holds an orange cloth, and a bearded man in white with an orange shawl and mala stands at far right. A pair of sandals lies on the ground near centre. The scene reads as a gathering or ceremony after dark.2007-12-21Night procession outdoors in front of a red-walled building strung with pink and purple fairy lights and a glowing neon oil lamp (diya) sign framed by white bulb garlands. A crowd of devotees walks in a line across a dirt ground: women in white and cream saris with gold borders, a woman in a maroon-and-gold sari, and men and women in orange and maroon robes. One figure in the center wears an orange shawl over a maroon garment with a turban-like orange head covering, another in orange has a red-and-gold wrap and a tall orange head covering, and a figure at right wears white with a long plait. The procession appears to be a ritual walk with devotees in traditional and saffron clothing.2015-01-13August 03 20092009-08-03December 04 2006 - Karthikai Deepam, Tiruvannamalai2006-12-04Night photograph of a covered open-air pavilion decorated with orange and white triangular bunting, tall painted cylindrical banners with yellow fringe at the corners, and a red wire canopy structure hanging above. A crowd of devotees stands in rows under the roof, many in white and cream dhotis or saris, others in yellow, orange and red shawls. In the centre, a monastic figure in orange robes with a shawl stands with hands folded in prayer, and a man in a cream kurta with a yellow shawl stands at right beside a seated person in a dark hooded garment at the lower right. A tall golden pillar and palm trees appear in the background.2010-12-17Night photo of a procession at an ashram, with people in white dhotis and shirts walking along a sandy path past a whitewashed building edged with red and white stripes. Strings of coloured lights decorate the building and the lit sign above the doorway. Several men wear orange shawls over white clothing, and a child in white stands near the front. Some people raise their arms. A figure in the middle wears an orange shawl and white garments, but the visible cues are not distinctive enough to confirm any identity, so the candidate remains uncertain. Festive lighting marks the evening Navaratri celebration.2007-10-12June 04 20062006-06-04February 18 20162016-02-18 +1 copies
