December 21 20072007-12-21Night outdoor gathering on a bare concrete ground lit by string lights strung across the scene. A central figure with long, loose dark hair wears an orange-saffron garment over a red top and stands barefoot with palms pressed together at the chest. Around him, a crowd of devotees in white dhotis and white kurtas, many with orange shawls or scarves draped over their shoulders, and some women in white sarees with orange and gold borders stand in rows facing him. A man in a dark blue jacket and white dhoti stands at right, and a white van is parked at left beside a low building. Participants wear rudraksha-style beaded necklaces. The event appears to be a devotional gathering in progress.2007-12-21December 21 20072007-12-21Night outdoor scene on a paved courtyard strung with rows of small multicolored fairy lights. A tall figure with long dark hair stands centre-front in a bright orange-saffron dhoti and a red-orange upper cloth, barefoot on the ground, with a long dark mala-style necklace. Around him, roughly a dozen men in white dhotis and white shirts, many wearing orange shawls and beaded necklaces, stand in loose formation looking ahead, while a man in a checked shirt stands at right. A white van and a low white building with lit doorways sit in the background. Appearance-based candidate is a person, given his long hair, saffron clothing and beaded necklace, but the image is ambiguous.2007-12-21Night photo of a courtyard in front of a whitewashed building with a stepped platform and a doorway hung with colourful streamers. Strings of lights run along the roofline. Around eight people stand on the concrete ground looking upward: a man in a blue jacket and white dhoti at left, a man in a checked shirt, a woman in a white sari with a pink border, and several men in white dhotis with orange shawls. In the centre a woman in an orange sari with a red blouse stands with hands on hips. Right of the steps a man in white with an orange shawl holds an orange cloth, and a bearded man in white with an orange shawl and mala stands at far right. A pair of sandals lies on the ground near centre. The scene reads as a gathering or ceremony after dark.2007-12-21Night-time outdoor photo of a group of people gathered on a dark ground. In the centre, a man wears a white head cloth and cream shawl over white kurta and dhoti, his hands clasped in greeting with a long-haired person in saffron-orange robes who is bare-shouldered. Around them stand devotees in white kurtas with orange shawls and rudraksha malas, and a person in a green top at left. The orange-robed figure has long swept-back dark hair, which matches the a person cues only loosely, so identity is uncertain; the central figure in white is a devotee-style person in ordinary white ritual clothing.2007-01-31Night procession outdoors in front of a red-walled building strung with pink and purple fairy lights and a glowing neon oil lamp (diya) sign framed by white bulb garlands. A crowd of devotees walks in a line across a dirt ground: women in white and cream saris with gold borders, a woman in a maroon-and-gold sari, and men and women in orange and maroon robes. One figure in the center wears an orange shawl over a maroon garment with a turban-like orange head covering, another in orange has a red-and-gold wrap and a tall orange head covering, and a figure at right wears white with a long plait. The procession appears to be a ritual walk with devotees in traditional and saffron clothing.2015-01-13August 02 20082008-08-02Night-time outdoor procession at a temple-like compound with an orange-washed wall. A man in white dhoti and shirt with a yellow shawl stands centre, holding a small object while a woman in an orange saffron sari with a shawl faces him, hands clasped in greeting. On the left, two men in white clothes with orange shawls hold a tall ornate parasol pole with a multicoloured canopy. Behind them a line of women in white saris with yellow shawls and some in pink and red saris hold brass staffs and stand in a row. Several onlookers in dark clothes stand at the right edge, and a few people are visible in the background. The ground is sandy with scattered litter.2010-11-19December 04 2006 - Karthikai Deepam, Tiruvannamalai2006-12-04Night photograph of a row of about a dozen people standing in a line outdoors in front of a thatched-roof structure with woven bamboo walls. Orange triangular bunting flags hang from a string on a bamboo pole at left. Ground is dirt and the sky is dark.2007-01-01December 02 20172017-12-02
