Devotees in saffron and orange shirts and sarongs walk among people in white dhotis and shirts, some holding orange and red flags and a yellow-and-red parasol. A drummer in white beats a large drum at right. Behind them, a large photographic poster of a smiling woman in orange hangs on a float, and a banner with Tamil text and a portrait of a man in a dark suit is mounted on a richly carved stone shrine structure. A uniformed police officer stands at the left edge, and a man in an orange shirt walks in the foreground.2009-01-30January 06 20132013-01-06February 13 20092009-02-13June 24 20142014-06-24 +1 copiesNight photo of the entrance to a Kalpataru event at Ramaswami Mudaliar Higher Secondary School. A large banner on the left advertises Kalpataru with Tamil text and event details. Two tall vertical banners flank the gate, each showing a long-haired figure in orange robes and a beaded necklace, which are printed portraits rather than people. Several men in white shirts and dhotis, a woman in an orange sari, and a man in a red shirt stand near parked motorcycles and a table beside the gate, with a white bus at right.2009-02-15February 15 20092009-02-15January 30 20092009-01-30November 10 20112011-11-10A roadside scene on a dirt verge beside a paved road, lined with tall coconut palms under an overcast sky. Two large orange banners are displayed: the larger one on a stand shows a smiling man wearing an orange turban and orange clothing beside Tamil and English lettering reading Nithyananda Dhyanapeetam. A smaller orange banner with a similar portrait is mounted on a small white truck parked at the right. Several motorcycles are parked in front of the big banner, a man in a white dhoti rides a bicycle at left, and a few men in light clothing sit on the grass near the truck. A peacock graphic appears on the truck's side. The banners show a portrait, not a physical person, so the only physical people are the bicycle rider and the seated men.2012-01-04A photograph of a street gathering in front of a tree-lined area with palms. A large horizontal banner on bamboo poles is held up over the crowd; it shows a portrait of a smiling man with a saffron-orange turban and ornate gold beaded necklace, with blue-and-white background and Tamil text. Below the banner, about seven men in white shirts and white dhotis stand watching; the man at left wears a dark beaded mala and another holds a phone to his ear. A white van and cars are parked behind them. The banner portrait shows a printed image, not a physical person; the men in front are the physical people present.2007-01-12
