In the foreground at lower left, a woman with long dark hair and a red-and-brown patterned skirt holds a lit oil lamp or flame near a small wooden stand bearing offerings. A man in white clothes kneels on the roots near the centre, holding a camera. A metal railing and a low stone platform sit behind. The setting suggests a tree puja at a sacred banyan.2014-06-06June 06 20142014-06-06June 06 20142014-06-06June 06 20142014-06-06A photograph of a large banyan tree with many hanging aerial roots and spreading limbs at an outdoor shrine. A shaved-headed man in a white dhoti with a maroon border stands barefoot on dark polished stone slabs at left, raising a small metal cup or lamp in his right hand toward the branches. Before the tree stands a low stone platform holding a metal plate with offerings and a white fibrous whisk or fan-like object, with stone steps in front.2010-10-19June 06 20142014-06-06December 31 20082008-12-31October 16 20052005-10-16A photograph of a large banyan tree with many thick aerial roots and hanging prop roots forming a dense trunk structure. At the base sits a small dark cave opening beside a low white stone platform with a small blue sign reading 'DO NOT ENTER THE CAVE'. In the foreground a person in a saffron-orange dhoti and shawl with red-maroon borders, bare-footed and holding hands together in prayer, stands on a polished black stone floor reflecting the tree. A rudraksha-style bead garland is visible at the neck. Dappled sunlight falls through the leaves.2011-01-31
