A large old banyan tree with dense aerial roots and sprawling branches dominates the outdoor scene, its roots exposed around a dug-out earthen pit. In the foreground at lower left, a woman with long dark hair and a red-and-brown patterned skirt holds a lit oil lamp or flame near a small wooden stand bearing offerings. A man in white clothes kneels on the roots near the centre, holding a camera. A metal railing and a low stone platform sit behind. The setting suggests a tree puja at a sacred banyan.
