A man in a checked shirt and blue jeans feeds a sugarcane stalk into a green hand-cranked crushing machine with large gears and iron rollers. Beneath it a steel pot and aluminium container catch the juice on a metal counter. An older bare-chested man with a saffron shawl and beaded necklace stands nearby, and a man in a white dhoti with gold border holds a steel cup at the left edge. A man in a red shirt and black trousers stands at the right by a red wall. Five people are visible.2016-11-29October 19 20132013-10-19A photograph inside a plain white-walled utility room with a green industrial machine. A man in a brown robe with a gold-edged yellow undergarment and a brown shawl, long dark hair tied back, stands at the machine smiling, holding a long wooden staff with a silver-capped end. Beside him, a bare-chested older man stands at the machine, and a younger man in a white vest and checked lungi holds a silver pot. In the foreground, two people in saffron-orange robes face away, one wearing an orange turban, and a woman in orange with a beaded necklace stands at right. A blue-handled hacksaw hangs on the wall at top right.2013-10-19A close photograph of a stainless steel vessel filled with fine white powder. A large dark grey stone grinding wheel with a red base sits in the powder, attached to a wooden handle that is held by a metal chain and bracket. No people are visible. The image is a process shot of a grinding or mixing apparatus, not a ritual scene.2015-07-11A photograph of a street-side sugarcane juice cart under a tree, with a blue canopy over a metal frame and green gears of a crushing mechanism. Stalks of sugarcane lie on the cart and in a blue crate on the right. A bearded man in a navy t-shirt, white shorts and sandals, with a shoulder bag, stands at left looking at the cart. A man in a checked shirt and jeans leans on the cart at right. A white tent stands behind them.2016-11-29A photograph of a kitchen set-up on a dirt floor. In the foreground a stainless steel pressure-style cooker or grinder with a metal lid and a red knob sits on a small metal stand with a pipe-like handle assembly. A bowl containing cooked yellow food sits beside it, and a large dented metal pot stands behind on the ground. A bare foot of a person is visible at the upper left and a printed cloth lies at the right edge. No people are fully visible, and no person is shown in the portion of the photo that appears clearly.2012-01-04April 24 20192019-04-24A photograph of a small wooden hand-press apparatus standing on a concrete step. It has an upright wooden frame, a turned wooden screw column with a horizontal wooden handle at the top, and a plain wooden platform beneath it, with a rope wound around the column and tied to the frame. A wooden drawer with a round knob sits at the base. Green light glows in the background, and the setting appears to be an indoor ritual or workshop area.2017-12-10October 19 20132013-10-19
