February 23 20152015-02-23Photograph looking upward at a tall, ribbed copper or brass ceremonial pole topped with a finial, rising from a carved and decorated base wrapped in jasmine and marigold garlands and leafy greenery. A person in a saffron-orange garment wearing a long pink-and-white flower garland and a rudraksha-style necklace stands at right, pulling on a rope attached to the pole under bright sunlight beneath a palm tree and a covered roof edge. The scene suggests a temple ritual raising of a decorated pole.2015-02-23October 18 20102010-10-18 +1 copiesFebruary 23 20152015-02-23A tall copper-coloured ceremonial flagstaff or dhvaja stambha rises diagonally against a bright blue sky, its base carved with architectural panels, wrapped with green leaves and grass at the top and draped with white and red flower garlands. At right, a man in a reddish-orange dhoti and a pink-white flower garland holds the rope that raises the pole, with palm fronds behind him. A sunlit shelter roof edge appears at top left.2015-02-23February 23 20152015-02-23April 10 20162016-04-10December 03 20162016-12-03December 14 20162016-12-14Outdoor photo of a tall copper flagstaff rising against an overcast sky, topped with a small wooden canopy and a red-orange flag. Two men pull the ropes at its base under a metal-framed shelter. The figure on the left has long dark hair and wears a sleeveless orange robe with an orange wrap, gripping a rope. The bald man on the right wears white ceremonial garments with maroon borders, a gold necklace and a white cloth draped over one shoulder, holding a rope near the flagstaff. Palm trees stand behind, and a blurred crowd fills the lower edge of the frame. The flagstaff is wrapped with copper bands and has carved wooden supports at its base.2010-09-13December 14 20162016-12-14Photograph of a flag-hoisting ceremony at a tall ornate copper-coloured dhvaja staff, wrapped in spiral bands and topped with a finial, set on a carved stone base hung with yellow and multicoloured marigold garlands. An orange saffron flag flies from the top against a clear blue sky, with coconut palms behind. Several people in orange saffron robes pull ropes to raise the staff; the nearest figure in a flowing orange robe with a white flower garland hangs on the rope, and others in orange clothing and a figure under a red umbrella stand at the right. Visible people number roughly four to five.2008-12-23
