Making Of Sacred Arts UniversityTwo men sit barefoot on bare ground working on a metal sculpture. The man on the left wears a white shirt and light blue jeans and uses a chisel-like tool on the metal. The man on the right wears a teal-grey shirt, a mustard-yellow dhoti with yellow border, and a red thread on his wrist, holding a hammer. Behind them sit sacks, copper-coloured pots and other tools on the dusty ground. No deity form is clearly identifiable from this view.2009-12-13Two men work at an outdoor metal-casting area with a glowing crucible. The man on the left wears a white t-shirt, checked lungi-style cloth and bandaged forearms, and holds a long iron handle with the crucible of molten metal. The man on the right, in a white t-shirt with a logo and plaid lungi, pulls the other end of the handle near the bright orange molten metal. A small child stands at the right edge, and a fire burns on the ground at left against a whitewashed wall.2014-08-24A man in a plain white shirt with a white forehead marking stands at an outdoor casting site, bending over a freshly cast metal piece with scalloped, fluted edges and small serpent-like relief ornaments. Beside it sits a large rust-coloured clay or metal mould with a stepped, bulbous shape. Scattered around the bare dusty ground are broken plaster or stone pieces, a plastic bag, pots and metal drums, and a bamboo frame under a blue tarp. The work appears to be metal casting for sacred art objects.2006-12-10June 23 20132013-06-23July 05 20132013-07-05Making Of Sacred Arts University +1 copiesA photograph of a stone carver at an outdoor work area with sandy ground and an orange-painted building behind. A man in a white sleeveless undershirt and white cloth kneels and strikes a chisel with a hammer against a large grey stone block. Two standing men beside him wear an orange cloth with yellow borders on the left and white dhotis with red borders on the right. A metal sink and a hammer head in the foreground frame the scene. Small yellow flowers lie on the ground.2013-07-14A photograph inside a bare, whitewashed concrete workshop shows men tending a glowing fire. In the centre a red-orange flame rises from a clay furnace or mould, and a man in a white t-shirt leans over it using long iron tongs and a rod to manipulate a metal piece in the fire. Beside him, a man in a white shirt and another in a dark apron and red checked cloth hold a long bellows-like pipe. Dry wood and debris lie on the earthen floor, with a blue drum in the background. Smoke drifts through the room.2014-08-24September 06 20092009-09-06July 20 20092009-07-20A man in a white sleeveless vest stands behind a dark work table in a plain whitewashed room, holding up a small polished gold-coloured metal figure of a standing deity with a tall crown, a halo-like disc behind the head and raised arms holding objects. Around him on the table are rough brown clay or mud sculpture pieces, including a large clay figure with a curved trunk-like form, an elephant-headed or animal-headed form, and other unfinished limbs. An orange plastic bucket sits at left and a small fire or burning incense stick glows near the table's base. The scene shows an idol-making workshop with clay modelling and casting in progress.2013-06-24
