A bare-chested man in saffron-orange dhoti and shawl, wearing a white headband, rudraksha-style beaded mala and garland, holds a lit flame toward the crowd while a man in white dhoti with a saffron sash gestures beside him. A dark stone deity murti stands behind them, adorned with green leaf garlands, red and orange flower garlands, and jeweled necklaces. A man in white dhoti and shirt with an orange-saffron shawl stands at left holding a lit lamp aloft toward a deity murti. The central murti stands under a gold arched canopy, draped in red and white cloth, with a red crown or headdress, and is heavily garlanded with yellow, red and green flower garlands and white flower strands. A black stone plinth below bears Tamil inscription text, and a small brass object stands on a white pedestal. Another shrine with a lit lamp is visible behind at left. The mood is nocturnal, with dark surroundings.2008-04-03February 19 20152015-02-19 +1 copiesA photograph in a dim temple shrine of a large dark stone deity murti adorned with heavy gold garlands, a gold necklace and a decorated face. A bald priest in a rust-red dhoti and orange shawl stands at left, reaching up with one arm to apply something to the murti's face. Two devotees at right in orange and saffron saris fold their hands in prayer beside a tall golden staff. A warm lamp glows above. No person is clearly identifiable as a person.2015-02-03July 30 20082008-07-30 +1 copiesA bare-chested man in an orange dhoti and orange shawl raises a lit oil lamp with his right hand during an evening ritual, holding a brass bell in his left hand. He wears a rudraksha mala, a long bead necklace and a white headband with a red tilak. Behind him stands a dark deity murti decorated with orange and green garlands and a jewelled collar. On the left, a man in white holds a tall gold staff, and a large orange ornate umbrella stands on the right, with a woman with folded hands at its edge.2017-05-06May 06 20172017-05-06A young priest in white dhoti and shawl with a gold-bordered yellow cloth, wearing a rudraksha mala, holds a silver lamp with a large flame in his left hand and a bell in his right while looking upward at a black stone deity murti. The murti is seated within a dark circular arch and is garlanded with yellow and orange marigold garlands and a pink flower; a bright oil lamp and flower offerings rest on the gold-coloured pedestal. Behind a green metal gate, a few devotees in orange and white stand nearby in the evening, with a wall display of framed portraits beside the doorway. Scene suggests aarti at a shrine. The priest is a presenter of the ritual and his appearance does not match the a person cues.2013-12-24
