Several men push and pull with wooden poles and ropes looped around the stone. Behind them, colourful draped fabrics, a purple sari and a red-and-gold palanquin-style seat are visible. One man in a cap stands at the right edge. The setting suggests a temple or ashram event with organised volunteer labour.2016-04-27Outdoor photo at a temple courtyard with rows of small black stone shivalingams on pedestals behind. A large dark grey lingam with a wide circular base dominates the centre, with scattered flower petals and marigold heads on the ground. A man kneels in a white dhoti with yellow border, reaching to touch the base of the lingam. Beside him stands a man in a white shirt and white dhoti, and at left a shaved-headed man in an orange-saffron robe with a yellow border and sacred body markings watches. Red wooden beams frame the scene and green trees rise behind.2011-11-10Outdoors on a paved platform, a large grey stone Shivalinga with a wide round yoni-pitha base stands in the foreground, surrounded by rows of smaller black linga stones. A bald man in an orange saffron robe with a mala stands at left, hands folded, watching. Beside him an older man in a white dhoti and white shirt stands barefoot. A third person in white dhoti with orange border kneels at the linga base, hand on the stone, with scattered white and orange flower petals and a red flower on the ground. Trees and a hill rise behind; a red container sits at right.2011-11-10December 11 20062006-12-11Inside a plain whitewashed hall at night, a group of devotees in white dhotis and saffron-orange shawls lift a long wooden pole on their shoulders, which carries a large rope-bound object. Several men in white shirts and a man in a red top and checked lungi stand around the pole, while a man in a light blue checked shirt watches. A white cloth canopy and a yellow machine stand at the back of the room under a metal roof frame. Some figures appear to be guiding the load while others brace the pole.2007-04-19Night-time photo inside a bare, whitewashed hall with a concrete floor and dark windows. Numerous men in white dhoti and shirt clothing, many with orange cloths or sashes at the waist or over shoulders, are carrying a heavy wooden platform or idol-shifting frame with long wooden poles, pulling and lifting it across the floor. Several onlookers in white and orange stand behind a metal railing at the back, including a woman in an orange shawl and a man in white with a lanyard. Some carriers wear casual shirts and coloured lungis. The scene conveys ritual labour in an ashram setting.2007-04-19A night scene inside a plain whitewashed hall with a green metal railing. A group of men in white dhotis and white shirts, many wearing orange shawls, crowd around a wooden palanquin or idol-carrying frame, lifting and shifting it with wooden poles. A man in a red-orange shirt and checked lungi stands at the right. Several Western-looking women and men in white and orange stand along the back wall watching. No identifiable a person figure is clearly visible in appearance-based cues.2007-04-19A photograph of a group of devotees in white dhotis and kurtas with orange sashes gathered around a heavy wooden beam fitted into a stone base, apparently moving or shifting a large idol in an indoor hall with bare concrete floor. Several men in white and orange stand bent and lean on the long log, while others in white and orange, some in saris, watch from the sides and behind. A man in a white shirt and checked lungi stands in the foreground pushing the beam, and a man in a light blue shirt holds the log overhead. A man with a shaved head in white kneels at the base. Off-white draped fabric hangs at the top right, and a yellow machine frame appears at the upper left. Bare feet are visible throughout.2007-04-19A photograph rotated on its side showing five people standing outdoors on dirt ground beside a large dark stone lingam with carved white geometric patterns on a pale stone base. In front, a bearded man in a full orange-saffron robe stands with palms pressed together. Behind him, two men in white dhotis and shirts stand with hands folded. At the top, a man in an orange-brown robe and orange turban wears a rudraksha mala and stands with arms extended toward the lingam, while another man in white stands behind him. A red-painted wall runs along the right side.2015-04-28
