April 06 20122012-04-06April 06 20122012-04-06Night photograph of a row of black stone Shivalingams on a raised platform, each wrapped in white cloth. A woman in a white sari with a gold border leans forward, tending a lingam with her hands. Other white-clad devotees stand in the background, and a figure in purple is visible behind them. The scene suggests a ritual abhishekam or puja.2012-04-06April 06 20122012-04-06Close view of several black stone Shivalingams on round yoni-peetha bases, one central lingam topped with a white flower and green leaves, with white ritual powder or milk traces on the bases. Blurred figures in the background include a person in white dhoti with bare upper body and others in blue, red and patterned saris, apparently seated in a puja or abhishekam setting. No clearly visible faces of a person are identifiable; the scene suggests Shiva lingam worship.2016-12-11 +1 copiesDecember 11 20162016-12-11 +1 copiesMay 05 20152015-05-05Night-time photo of a row of black stone Shivalingams, each wrapped in white cloth, at an outdoor temple. Two women in white saris with gold borders bend forward over the lingams, one with hands joined in prayer and a rudraksha-style bead necklace visible. A third person in a purple garment stands further back near another lingam. No a person candidate is clearly visible; the figures appear to be devotees performing a lingam worship ritual.2012-04-06Night photograph of a vast outdoor gathering of seated devotees in rows, each wearing white cloth with red-and-gold borders and a dark cylindrical headpiece. Strings of yellow lights and tall white floodlights illuminate the open ground, with bamboo fencing and trees in the background.2009-08-03Outdoor photo of a row of black stone Shiva lingams on a red-brick platform, each with a gold-coloured base tray. Pink and white flower petals are scattered over the lingams. Golden kalasha vessels are tilted above them, pouring water down over the stones in an abhishekam. Several people in plain white clothes kneel along the row; only forearms, bare feet and white-clad legs are visible, so the people are partly cropped. Bags and white cloth sit on the left.2016-12-02Close view of black stone Shivalingams on square yoni pedestals set along a red-brown ledge during a ritual. Brass bowls sit at the base, one holding flower petals and a yellow flower rests on the central lingam. Behind them, a brass lamp with a lit flame and a small brass aarti or puja vessel stand beside a small figure of a sage-like deity or devotee. Only legs and white or cream dhoti-clad lower bodies of standing officiants are visible at the top edge, with a brass pot or kalasha spout. Petals are scattered on the pedestals and a few pieces of rangoli-like colour dot the ground.2016-12-23July 31 20172017-07-31 +1 copies
