March 04 20172017-03-04July 05 20132013-07-05A photograph of a ritual blessing. A young man with hair tied in a bun, a white forehead mark and an orange wrap with a rudraksha mala around his neck and waist places his palm on the forehead of a shaved-head devotee in a white t-shirt. The devotee has his eyes closed and hands raised beside his head, and holds a gold bracelet and a rudraksha bead. The priest holds a folded paper in his left hand. Two shaved-head men in orange sit blurred at the bottom edge and right side. White walls and a red curtain form the background.2012-10-11July 15 20132013-07-15 +1 copiesJuly 04 20132013-07-04June 21 20122012-06-21November 11 20112011-11-11A priest in a saffron-red dhoti with a gold border, bare-chested and wearing a heavy rudraksha-style gold and bead necklace, presses his right hand to the forehead of a seated man in a white kurta. The recipient wears a rudraksha mala and an orange-red shawl printed with script, and has white sacred ash on his brow with eyes closed. Behind them, attendants in red-orange robes stand near a silver ceremonial staff and a green plant. The priest's forehead carries white markings and he wears a rudraksha mala. A rite of blessing or initiation is taking place in a warmly lit hall with dark red drapes.2015-07-17March 07 20132013-03-07June 21 20122012-06-21A photograph of a healers' initiation with a man in a saffron-and-gold garment and a gold beaded necklace placing his right palm on the forehead of a bald devotee in white clothes and an orange-red shawl. A young man in white with a red-and-gold wrap receives the touch while his hands are raised. Behind them, a woman in white with an orange-red shawl and a rudraksha mala holds small sticks, and other devotees in white and orange shawls stand near a red drape with brass oil lamps and a golden deity murti. The page marks the scene as a person-attended; the saffron-clad figure with a long swept-back hairstyle and gold necklace is a probable in-person candidate, while the event itself is not visibly labelled in the photo.2015-07-19A seated figure with long dark hair, wearing a rust-brown shawl and a red-and-yellow beaded necklace with rudraksha-style beads, places one hand on the forehead of a man in a white striped shirt who stands with palms pressed together in namaste. The seated figure appears to be a probable Swamiji (appearance cues: long swept-back hair, rudraksha-style malas, ornate gold-toned adornments) giving a blessing. Behind, a man in white ritual dhoti with a red tilak sits watching, and another man in white with an orange lanyard stands in the background near a wall and window.2013-05-12
