December 23 20082008-12-23A photograph at an outdoor sacred site beneath a large banyan tree with thick aerial roots and yellow and orange garlands tied around them. In the foreground a woman with long dark hair wears an orange sari-style wrap and a green and yellow flower garland, holding a lit oil lamp toward the tree while standing before a dark reflective stone surface. Beside her a man in white dhoti and white shirt with an orange shawl gestures over the water-like surface. Another orange-clad figure stands at the left edge, and a bald-headed person in white sits partly visible at the bottom. A white chalk kolam pattern lines the ground. Two people are visible in the scene, though others are partly cut off at the frame edges.2007-12-22An outdoor photograph of a large banyan tree with thick aerial roots and a white-painted circular platform at its base. A yellow marigold garland hangs on the trunk and a thali of flower petals sits on the platform beside a brass oil lamp. Two people in saffron-orange robes stand at right, palms pressed together in prayer, one holding a brass vessel and kalasha-like object. The person at right has long hair tied back, a rudraksha-style neck garland and an orange shawl; the other wears a headband and a white-and-yellow floral garland. Sandy ground and a brick wall with trees form the background, and a dark stone slab lies in the foreground.2008-12-24December 30 20172017-12-30Outdoors among large banyan tree roots and trunks in a green garden, a man with long dark hair stands barefoot on a raised stone platform beside the tree. He wears a saffron-orange dhoti with gold borders and a bare upper body, with a large rudraksha mala and a gold-coloured ornamental necklace; a line of white marks is on his chest, and his forehead is marked. A second man stands at right in saffron-orange robes with a rudraksha mala and shaved head, holding a rope or cord that runs toward the platform. Stone blocks, a red mat and a white pillar lie on the red earth nearby. a person: the man on the platform shows long swept-back hair, rudraksha and gold necklace cues, so this is an in-person candidate with some uncertainty.2013-05-13December 30 20172017-12-30December 30 20072007-12-30Outdoors under a large banyan tree with aerial roots, a person in orange robes with a white flower garland stands with palms pressed together in namaste at a shrine area. Marigold garlands are strung along the tree, and a white circular platform sits at its base. To the right, another person in orange robes holds a metal tray of offerings. Behind them a shrine with a red backdrop and an ornate arch holds a figure draped in orange. Dark stone tiles lie on the ground.2010-01-02 +1 copiesOutdoors beneath a large banyan tree with thick, twisting aerial roots, three people in saffron-orange robes stand on a sandy path. A bald man in the foreground bends forward, one arm extended to touch the trunk, while another person kneels at the base of the tree beside a strand of marigold garlands. To the right, a standing figure with long dark hair wears a draped orange wrap and watches. Dappled sunlight falls across the ground and green foliage fills the background, with a stone-edged path curving to the right.2006-11-21May 18 20132013-05-18Outdoor scene beneath a large banyan tree with dense aerial roots. Four men in ochre and saffron robes stand on a black stone platform near a circular stone base. Two men on the left wear rust-brown dhotis with gold borders and vibhuti marks on their foreheads; one holds a small silver bowl. A central figure in a bright orange shawl, seen from behind with head covered, bows or prostrates toward the tree. A man on the right wears a rust-brown dhoti with gold border and ceremonial thread. Two red-and-cream patterned mats lie on the stone floor in front of them. This appears to be a devotional ritual at the banyan tree, with no clearly visible face identifiable as a person.2013-11-05Outdoor ritual scene at a large banyan tree with thick aerial roots and a low red-washed stone platform at its base. Several bare-chested men in orange saffron dhotis stand on a paved stone path.
