Outdoor ritual scene at a large banyan tree with thick aerial roots and a low red-washed stone platform at its base. Several bare-chested men in orange saffron dhotis stand on a paved stone path. One man in front holds a tall yellow-shafted ceremonial umbrella with a fringed canopy of blue, red, yellow and white tassels. Another man in the centre raises a lit oil lamp toward the tree. Garlands of yellow and orange marigolds hang on the trunk and on a man's shoulders, with a red floral garland at the front. Dappled sunlight falls across the path and the tree.
