October 18 20102010-10-18Two saffron-robed men perform a ritual at an ornately carved stone pillar outdoors beneath a metal roof and palm trees. The man on the left, in orange cloth with a yellow border and a bangle on his wrist, holds a brass vessel and reaches toward the pillar. The man on the right, in red-orange robes with a gold-bordered cloth and a red-and-white beaded mala, lifts a garland of yellow and orange flowers up toward the pillar's top. The pillar's base is decorated with floral carvings, and its central niche holds a seated deity murti decorated with pink and magenta flower garlands. Several seated onlookers, including women in traditional dress, watch from the lower left.2011-08-23November 06 20102010-11-06December 23 20082008-12-23Outdoors among palm trees, a figure with long dark hair and a bare upper body wrapped in an orange-saffron cloth ties an orange cord around a tall copper kalasha-like pillar. Yellow marigold garlands hang from the pillar's base, which has carved relief panels, and dried straw stalks are tucked at its foot. A second person, shaved-headed and wearing a white dhoti with an orange-bordered shawl and a beaded mala, stands beside it holding a silver tray of yellow flowers and offerings. The scene suggests a ritual dressing of a sacred pillar. The figure in orange is a person whose appearance is uncertain, so no identification is made.2011-10-07Outdoors under a blue sky with clouds and tall coconut palms, a tall copper dhvaja stambha (flagstaff) rises from a carved stone base on a raised orange platform. Two saffron-robed men stand at the pole: on the left a bald priest in orange with a red border tends the rope wound around the pole, while on the right a young man with long dark hair wears an orange-red robe and a beaded mala, placing his hand on the copper column. Marigold petals lie at the base. Behind them, devotees in white and in saffron stand near a banner, small triangular bunting flags, and a ceremonial canopy. The image shows a flagstaff ritual.2010-10-18 +1 copiesOutdoor photo of two men in saffron and orange robes raising a copper dhwajastambha flagpole at a temple. The man on the right wears an orange wrap and dhoti with a maroon border, his back to the camera, his long dark hair tied up, guiding the pole.
