Night photograph of an aarti at a large banyan tree with dense hanging aerial roots. In the foreground, a bare-chested man with long swept-back dark hair, a red rudraksha mala and gold bangles holds a silver lamp with a bright flame that sends smoke upward. Behind him, a second man in white clothing stands near the flame. The dark background and warm firelight make the tree roots stand out.

April 24 20132013-04-24A photograph at night of a person in a maroon and gold ritual garment and a maroon turban, standing at the left and holding a lit oil lamp toward a large banyan tree trunk with exposed aerial roots. A garland of red and yellow flowers with white blooms hangs across the tree trunk on the right. The person wears a long red-and-white flower garland, gold bangles and gold waist band. The scene is dark apart from the flame and a beam of light from the left.2014-12-05December 14 20112011-12-14Night ritual outdoors beneath a large tree with a bright light at upper right and smoke drifting through the frame. A smiling figure with swept-back dark hair, a red vermilion mark on the forehead, a red and white floral garland, and a saffron-orange cloth draped over the shoulders raises a lit oil lamp aloft in one hand while holding a small handbell in the other. Behind him, several saffron-robed men with white-painted foreheads and gold-bordered necklaces stand with hands folded in prayer or holding a metal plate. A gold-edged red ceremonial backdrop appears behind the group. The figure with the lamp has distinctive long swept-back hair, saffron-orange clothing and garlands, matching the page's reference to a person, so this is a probable match for a person leading an aarti.2013-04-24Night photograph of an outdoor ritual beside dense green bamboo and leafy trees. A bare-chested man with a shaved head, wearing a saffron-orange shawl over his shoulders, a rudraksha mala around his neck and a white dhoti, holds a lit flame or arati lamp toward two blurred figures in the foreground. The flame flares bright orange against the darkness. The man has the appearance of a person, though his face is partly in profile and the image is dim. She wears a long red and yellow marigold garland over her shoulder, gold bangles and gold armband, and her hair is pulled back. A red and yellow flower garland is draped around the tree trunk. The tree has many aerial roots, and a dark stone base sits in the foreground. The scene appears to be an evening puja at a sacred tree.2014-11-26November 26 20142014-11-26November 24 20152015-11-24Photograph at dusk or night of a large old banyan tree with aerial roots hanging from its branches. In the centre foreground, a figure in an orange robe over a red top raises a lit oil lamp overhead with one hand, flame visible. Beside them, two men in white dhotis with orange shawls stand on a circular stone platform: the one nearer the lamp holds a tray and the other holds a small bell. Dark, dense foliage fills the background.2007-02-25November 24 20152015-11-24December 05 20142014-12-05
