September 27 20172017-09-27September 27 20172017-09-27A procession of devotees walks along a stone-paved path lined with palm trees. Many carry large ornate umbrellas in yellow, red, pink and teal, with beaded fringes, held aloft over the group. Near the centre, a man with long dark hair wears a white dhoti, an orange shoulder cloth and a rudraksha mala, and gestures with his hand as he walks. Beside him, a bald man in a white kurta and dhoti holds a red umbrella. Men in white dhotis and orange garments and women in saris and pink shawls follow. A woman on the right wears a red sari and a pink shawl. Crowd-level procession with umbrellas and ceremonial dress.2016-12-03September 27 20172017-09-27A procession on a dirt road under a canopy of tall decorated umbrellas with red, blue and gold fringed panels and bold motifs. A shaven-headed man in an orange-saffron shawl and orange dhoti walks barefoot at centre, flanked by others in white dhotis and orange shawls. On the left a man in white carries a silver tray of flowers. Umbrella bearers in white and orange hold the poles, and an older man in peach robes walks beside them. Strings of bunting cross the path, with trees and parked cars behind.2007-08-09August 15 20172017-08-15A procession on a dirt road lined with green shrubs and trees. Several saffron-robed sannyasis walk in a line; a man in the center wears an orange turban and orange robes and carries nothing visible, while a sannyasi behind him holds a decorated box. Two men in white dhotis with yellow shawls hold up colourful fringed parasols on long poles, and a cameraman with a camera on the left films the group. The white-clad attendants and saffron-clad monastics suggest a ceremonial walk, possibly a person appearance in the procession.2009-12-11August 16 20172017-08-16 +2 copiesOutdoor ritual procession at dusk on bare earth, with a sugarcane stalk at the upper right and a trees-and-red-wall backdrop. Several men in white dhotis with gold borders stand at left holding colourful striped umbrellas aloft over a group of robed people in saffron and orange. In the centre two figures in saffron-orange robes and rudraksha malas stand before a patterned mat, one holding a brass tray with lamps and offerings while the other holds a ceremonial vessel. A row of devotees in orange and white stands behind, palms pressed together. Stone basins with water sit in the foreground, and a white kolam design is drawn on the ground. The ritual appears to be a procession or puja of devotees.2016-01-16Outdoor procession on a paved road under trees and blue sky, marking the first USA Kumbha Mela. A tall red-and-white ornate parasol with a lotus-motif canopy is carried upright by a man in white dhoti and shirt at left. Centre, a man in saffron-orange robes with an orange turban, long hair and a rudraksha mala walks forward, hands folded; the swept-back long hair, orange turban and rudraksha cues are compatible with the a person label, so a person is unsure. Around them, white-clad devotees carry orange and red flags and parasols, and a woman in white holds a metal vessel. A white flag with a blue bird emblem and a banner are visible behind the group.2006-09-10A procession moves along a brick-paved courtyard under colourful umbrellas and canopies with yellow, purple and red tops, with lush green trees behind. A central figure with long dark hair, a red-brown dhoti and a thick multi-strand garland of red and white flowers walks forward barefoot, flanked by many devotees in saffron and orange robes with rudraksha malas. Women in orange saris and men in orange shawls walk alongside, some with hands folded in prayer. A man in white stands at the left edge and a cameraman in white holds a camera at the right. The scene reads as a ritual procession with umbrella-bearers and garlanded devotees.2016-08-27September 26 20162016-09-26
