A row of young saffron-robed monks sits cross-legged on a mat in a temple hall, hands folded in prayer or about to eat. Their heads are shaved, with white vibhuti or sandal markings on forehead, arms and chest, and they wear rudraksha malas and bead necklaces. Before them on green banana-leaf plates are rice, curries, pappadam, vegetables and sweets, with paper cups of water. Behind them stands a figure in white dhoti and gold-toned statues are visible. The scene suggests an annadan or communal meal at an ashram.
