July 05 20012001-07-05A photograph of a devotional gathering under a tent-like canopy at night. In the foreground, a man in saffron-orange robes and a shawl stands at left, extending his arm toward a seated figure. The seated figure wears a white turban and a dark embroidered garment with gold trim, and sits behind a garland of white flowers and a bouquet of pink and red flowers. Before him are a brass oil lamp and a flower-garlanded offering with fruit. Behind the seated figure, two framed portraits of saints are draped with white jasmine garlands and red blossoms, set against a floral patterned curtain and a dark cloth with white and gold motifs. Several onlookers in light clothing are partly visible at left. Smoke rises from the lamp. The portraits are garlanded with white and pink flowers and lit from above. In front, a low seat draped in maroon and gold cloth is covered in flower garlands and holds a fruit tray with coconuts and bananas. The white room has ornate white pillars. A man in a maroon and gold dhoti performs an aarti, not a visible fire pit homa. The portraits are printed photographs, so they are depicted people, not physical attendees.2014-07-03A photograph of a homa or fire ritual at a brick-lined fire pit. A shaved-headed man in an orange saffron cloth, bare-chested, sits cross-legged at left and feeds offerings into the flames with his right hand. Behind the fire pit stands a decorated altar with a red and gold deity murti garlanded with white and pink flowers. Three framed portraits hang behind on a floral cloth, each garlanded with white flower strings. Brass lamps and a flower-covered offering table appear at right, and flower petals are scattered on the ground. The man's appearance does not clearly match the page's a person claim, so he is described by role only.A shaved-headed priest in an orange saffron dhoti and orange upper cloth, wearing gold armbands and a beaded necklace, stands with his back to the camera and performs aarti with a flaming oil lamp before a framed photograph hung with red marigold garlands. The framed portraits show a man in orange with a rudraksha-style necklace and a woman in white draped cloth with folded hands, set above a draped cloth altar with a green leaf offering. Orange and cream fabric hangs behind the altar under a thatched roof of wooden poles. Two devotees with palms pressed together stand at the edges, one in white. Several people are partly visible in the background.2011-04-17April 17 20112011-04-17November 12 20082008-11-12A woman in a red and gold sari with a white and red flower garland stands at left holding a lit oil lamp in one hand and a small bell in the other, performing aarti. In front of a red draped altar with three framed black-and-white portraits, each adorned with white and pink garlands, a second woman in a red and gold sari kneels with her head bowed and a garland around her neck. A brass plate of fruit sits in the foreground. White pillars and a white wall with a tiled floor complete the room. Three framed portraits on the altar are printed photos, not physical people, and no portrait caption is legible. Two physical people are visible.2014-07-03
