February 06 20142014-02-06April 24 20122012-04-24Night photograph of an outdoor ritual at an evening aarti. Two shaven-headed men in saffron-orange dhotis with gold borders and orange-beaded shawls stand facing each other. The man on the right holds a silver lamp with several lit oil lamps (aarti) and speaks. The man on the left stands with palms pressed together in anjali mudra, his head clean-shaven with a white tilak. Behind them, women in orange and red saris with folded hands and rudraksha beads stand in a line, and men in casual shirts watch from the edges, one holding a tray. Dark background with a bright floodlight.2013-12-24Night photograph of a flag-raising ceremony against a black background. A central man in an orange saffron robe with a red-and-orange garland stands before a tall copper pole, holding and gathering a large orange silk flag. To his left, a man in orange robes with a white forehead mark grips a white rope running along the pole. To his right, a man in orange robes with a white tilak handles the flag's fabric. Copper pot-like fittings and wisps of grass appear near the base of the pole. Swamiji (probable): the central figure wears a saffron robe, a garland and long swept-back hair, a combination of cues consistent with the page's account of Swamiji hoisting the Nithyotsavam flag. Visible people are in the foreground at lower edge, partially cropped.2008-01-03A photograph of a row of shaved-headed priests in saffron-orange and gold-bordered dhotis and shawls, bare-chested, wearing white and gold bead garlands. They stand side by side holding silver bells and ritual implements, and an oil lamp burns on a table to the left, with brass plates and a pink-draped backdrop behind them. A few seated devotees in orange appear at the right edge.2016-01-03Night-time photograph of a flag-raising or flag-lowering at a temple. Two men in orange saffron robes stand on the left and right, one reaching up to a long white cloth or rope, while a central figure in a bright orange-red satin robe, arms raised and head bowed, is being assisted by the men. A tall wooden or brass pole with straw-like fibres is visible at left. The background is dark. Three people are physically present.2008-01-03October 05 20142014-10-05Night photo of a tall copper ceremonial pillar wrapped with white cord, with gilded small shrine figures on its base. A man with long dark hair in an orange-saffron robe and pink shawl, wearing a red and orange flower garland, stands with hands together near the pillar. Behind him a second man in orange robes and a red sash holds a brass plate, and a third person in orange clothing stands at the right beside palm fronds. Four people are visible; the scene reads as a ritual near a copper pillar at night.2008-01-03November 17 20132013-11-17January 03 20082008-01-03A row of shaven-headed men in saffron-orange robes holds small brass oil lamps and plates of lit flames toward the viewer during a ritual. Their foreheads and arms are marked with white and ash-coloured tilak and vibhuti, and several wear rudraksha malas on wrists and necks. Lit candles and brass vessels with flowers sit on a table in the foreground, with red drapery behind.2013-11-26January 03 20082008-01-03
