March 18 20132013-03-18A photograph of a large seated congregation holding small lit oil lamps in cupped hands during a group ritual. Most participants are women and girls in traditional South Indian dress: many wear maroon and gold-bordered saris or blouses, others wear white or cream sarees with gold borders, and one older woman in the foreground wears an orange sari. Several have forehead markings and gold-toned jewellery, and some wear rudraksha-style beaded necklaces. A few men and boys appear in the background. Lamps are lit throughout the crowd, and the setting is an indoor hall with a light-coloured floor. No speaker or throne is clearly visible in this frame.2013-01-15July 04 20132013-07-04 +1 copiesMarch 18 20132013-03-18October 25 20122012-10-25Photograph of a large seated group during a ritual gathering. In the foreground, several young girls and boys wear maroon and red garments with gold borders, rudraksha malas, and white sacred ash lines on their foreheads, some with hands joined in prayer. Behind them, a woman in white clothes with a red shawl holds a small oil lamp and a flower, while many women in white and red shawls sit with hands folded or holding lamps. A candle stands in the lower right foreground. The overall scene reads as a puja or satsang with lamps.2013-07-13A large group of women seated on the floor in a hall, many holding small lit oil lamps or flames in their hands during a devotional gathering.
