A photograph of a large seated congregation holding small lit oil lamps in cupped hands during a group ritual. Most participants are women and girls in traditional South Indian dress: many wear maroon and gold-bordered saris or blouses, others wear white or cream sarees with gold borders, and one older woman in the foreground wears an orange sari. Several have forehead markings and gold-toned jewellery, and some wear rudraksha-style beaded necklaces. A few men and boys appear in the background. Lamps are lit throughout the crowd, and the setting is an indoor hall with a light-coloured floor. No speaker or throne is clearly visible in this frame.2013-01-15January 24 20132013-01-24March 18 20132013-03-18A large seated gathering of devotees holds small oil lamps with flames during a candlelit ceremony in a temple hall. Most are young women and girls in maroon, red and magenta salwar kameez and saris, with gold-coloured necklaces and some wearing spectacles. A few women in white and pale blue sit among them, and a woman in a pink sari raises her hand toward a lamp. Many faces show calm, focused attention. The crowd fills the frame with the flames glowing across the scene.2012-10-27July 13 20132013-07-13A photograph of a seated group of devotees performing a ritual with oil lamps during a satsang gathering in a hall. In the foreground, several women in saffron-orange robes with rudraksha malas hold lit oil lamps (diyas) and make gestures of offering; one woman on the right wears glasses and a saffron robe, and another in the centre wears an orange garment with a beaded necklace and white forehead markings. A woman at left in a white sari with a red-brown mala holds a lamp, and others in white and orange sit behind them, many with white forehead markings and hands joined in prayer. Chairs, a table and a small brass tray with offerings are visible in the background, and the scene is lit with warm, bright light.2014-09-07Indoor gathering of many seated women in traditional Indian dress, holding small lit oil lamps and offering plates during what appears to be an aarti or lamp offering. Foreground woman in a rust-orange sari with a red bindi and beaded necklaces, holding a lit lamp with raised hand; beside her a woman in orange holds a lamp on a plate. Behind, women wear white and cream saris with gold borders, one in a yellow shawl, and several wear white headbands with rudraksha-style malas. Brass plates and diyas sit on the floor. No man in the saffron ritual attire is visible, so no candidate appears in the scene.2013-01-15October 13 20132013-10-13July 20 20132013-07-20July 13 20132013-07-13July 09 20132013-07-09October 25 20122012-10-25
