At the top a small red-and-orange figure hangs from the pole's crown, and a rope runs down from it. In the lower right a single person in orange robes and a rudraksha-style bead necklace stands on the ground, arms raised, holding the orange cloth and ropes that lead up to the pole. Palm fronds and a covered roof edge frame the view against a bright sky.2011-08-23A tall copper dhwajasthambha (flagstaff) rises steeply against a bright sky, its ringed shaft topped with a carved finial and wrapped at the base with fresh green leaves, grass and white-and-red flower garlands on a carved stone pedestal. A man in saffron-orange dhoti and shawl, wearing layered coral-and-gold necklaces and armlets, stands at right beside a coconut palm and pulls a rope to hoist a saffron flag up the pole. Overhead a metal roof edge frames the view. Only one person is visible, and his face is turned upward, so the identity of the flag-raiser cannot be confirmed from appearance.2015-02-23A tall tapering copper flagstaff stands in an outdoor temple courtyard, wrapped with bands and garlanded near its base with yellow and red flowers. Two men pull the rope that raises a saffron-orange cloth on the pole. The man in front wears an orange robe and reaches overhead with both arms. Behind him, a man in white dhoti and shawl with red border holds the rope. A foreground figure in white cloth looks up at the flagstaff. Palm fronds and a bright sky fill the background.2010-09-02Outdoor temple ritual under a large metal-roofed open pavilion. A tall polished copper dhwaja stambha (flagstaff) rises at centre, with a red-orange saffron flag hanging from a cross-bar and a garland and grass bundle wrapped at its base. A standing figure with long dark matted hair, wearing a red-maroon cloth and white flower garland, stands beside the pole. To the left, several men in saffron-orange dhotis, some bare-chested with sacred threads and necklaces, gather around a brass vessel during the ritual. Hanging bells, red and green decorative umbrellas and tassels decorate the roof, and a red stone platform is in the foreground.2016-09-26
