In the foreground, a shallow pit of freshly turned soil holds a yellow stone slab scattered with yellow and white flower petals. A small stone stool or altar sits centrally, also dusted with petals and a bit of yellow powder. Concrete walls frame the passage, and a brass plate of ash or powder rests on the left ledge. No people are visible.2013-04-24November 29 20182018-11-29October 19 20102010-10-19December 05 20182018-12-05November 17 20132013-11-17July 16 20192019-07-16A photograph of an outdoor ritual at the base of a large banyan tree with many hanging aerial roots. In the foreground a priest in white dhoti and white shawl with a gold-bordered cloth holds a brass lamp with a flame, offering it near a stone platform circling the tree trunk. Behind him a cameraman in a dark vest and white shirt films. On a black cloth in front are plantains, coconut halves, packaged snacks, a red cloth-wrapped object, jute string and a small brass bowl, typical of an aarti offering. Dry leaves scatter the ground and a reddish wall is visible behind the tree. No identifiable a person figure is visible.2013-12-18January 01 20142014-01-01
