Smoke rises from the lamp against a dark background. A partially visible person in orange clothing appears at the lower left edge. The priest, with his bare upper body and gold bangles, appears to be performing an evening aarti ritual.2015-05-05September 28 20112011-09-28Photograph of a shaved-headed man in white ritual cloth, bare-shouldered with a gold necklace and white ash markings on his arm, holding a silver aarti lamp with multiple flames in his right hand and a small silver bell in his left. He faces left toward the flame in a temple-like setting with carved stone pillars and a saffron cloth hanging behind him.2011-09-13September 08 20112011-09-08February 09 20122012-02-09April 23 20132013-04-23October 09 20122012-10-09A shaved-headed man in white ritual dress holds a small silver oil lamp with a visible flame in his right hand while looking upward. He wears a white dhoti with a red border, a gold chain of round beads, a gold bangle and a ring, and has white sacred ash markings on his forehead, arms and shoulders with a red kumkum dot. A gold pendant with a small framed portrait hangs from the chain. The lamp suggests a puja or aarti; an orange cloth edge appears at the right. He is a priest or devotee performing a lamp offering. A standing priest in white dhoti and shawl with red-and-white border, bare-chested with a gold-toned beaded necklace, holds up a silver lamp with a flame in one hand. Seated devotees in white fill the foreground and background, some with hands folded. Leaf festoons and striped cloth hangings decorate the space. A figure in the lower right wears a white garment and glasses. The priest's build and dress match ordinary ritual attire, so the identity of the officiant is uncertain.2010-10-16 +1 copies
