In the foreground, a square brick enclosure with a lit oil lamp sits on the floor, its edges dusted with white powder, surrounded by brass vessels and scattered flower petals. A woman in a blue sari holds a tambourine-like hand cymbal, and women in saris sit nearby. At the right, men in white dhotis and shirts sit on the floor; one plays a small hand drum and another a harmonium with a microphone stand. Many other devotees in white clothes sit along the walls with hands pressed together in prayer. A framed picture hangs on the back wall.2004-06-12September 16 20132013-09-16Outdoor temple-courtyard ritual with a crowd seated on the ground in front of a decorated altar. A bare-chested priest in white dhoti and a shawl sits at the left, with a rudraksha-style mala visible, and a seated priest in a white dhoti sits at the centre-front facing the altar. The altar holds a flower-garlanded kalasha-style pot or deity murti, with brass lamps, bananas, fruit, coconuts and a plate of grains and offerings spread on a patterned mat. Devotees in white shirts, saris and salwars sit around, some handing items forward, and a man in a light blue shirt places bananas onto a plate. Colourful striped cloth hangs behind the altar, and temple pillars frame the scene.2012-04-05A wedding ceremony in a decorated hall with white drapery, floral garlands and tall pillars. A seated priest in a green-and-gold dhoti pours from a silver vessel over the hands of a couple; the bride wears a pink-and-white floral garland and the groom a white shirt with a multicoloured garland. An older man in a white dhoti and white shirt with an orange-and-white shawl stands at right, pouring water while a woman in a grey-and-gold sari sits beside the couple. Family members in saffron-and-green saris and a boy in a dark blazer stand behind, with an elderly woman in purple at left. Brass plates with flowers, fruit, betel and a kalasha-like vessel sit on the floor. At right, a figure in orange robes and an orange turban sits on an ornate wooden throne decorated with garlands and a green-white-saffron fringe. Before the throne, a woman in a yellow sari with folded hands is seated on a striped mat, beside a man in white dhoti with a rudraksha mala and a man in white robes ringing a handbell. Trays of flowers, fruit, coconuts and banana leaves lie on the cloth at left, with a golden kalasha nearby. Devotees in yellow, orange and white sit behind, and a white-clad attendant stands at left. A camera on a tripod is visible.2004-06-12September 16 20132013-09-16 +1 copiesJune 12 20042004-06-12A large crowd of devotees sits on the floor of a temple hall with stone pillars, watching a ritual at a small blue wooden platform in the centre. Bare-chested priests in white dhotis, one with a shaved head and glasses, sit around offerings of fruit, flowers, a brass kalasha and oil lamps. Behind them, two elaborately decorated deity murtis are draped with bright garlands of orange and yellow flowers, and a banana plant stands beside a pillar. Women in saris and older men in white shirts sit among the crowd. Most people here are seated, with some standing at the back, and the scene reads as an abhishekam or puja in a South Indian temple.2012-04-05 +1 copiesApril 02 20172017-04-02A puja scene inside a hall, with a low brick-lined fire pit or homa altar at centre and a purple cloth-draped table laden with bananas, mangoes, pineapples, apples, lemons, flower garlands, sugarcane stalks, a red chili and coconut-like offerings. A bare-chested priest in a maroon dhoti with rudraksha mala and a wristwatch sits at right, holding a ritual item aloft over the offerings, while another priest in saffron clothing with a microphone sits beside him. Seated devotees in white and cream dhotis and kurtas, some with shaved heads, fill the background, with a few standing people at the top edge.2004-06-12June 12 20042004-06-12
