A red tilak mark is on her forehead and a thin chain-like necklace hangs at her chest. Behind her are stacked bricks with a silver bowl, small brass vessels and red-decorated plates. Warm light from the fire fills the scene and a blurred hall with ceiling lights is in the background.2014-01-05January 05 20142014-01-05January 05 20142014-01-05December 20 20132013-12-20A man in an orange-red turban and matching saffron-red dhoti-style wrap with a gold border tends a large fire at a homa. He wears a rudraksha mala and heavy gold beaded necklaces, with bead bracelets on his wrists and a red bindi on his forehead. Bright flames rise from a brick fire pit in front of him, and a copper pot sits to the side. The setting is dark and smoky, with the figure lit mainly by the fire.2014-01-05A fire ritual in an indoor hall: a fire burns on a low brick-like platform in front of seated devotees. A man in a red-orange hooded shawl and a rudraksha-style bead garland holds a silver plate with a small vessel, while a bare-chested priest in an orange turban, gold-bordered orange dhoti and a beaded garland pours from a small brass vessel, with white ash marks on his arm. Brass bowls sit near the flame, and many people in white and light clothing sit in rows at left. Warm lamp light and a chandelier overhead.2014-01-05A homa fire burns on a raised stone fire pit in the foreground at night. A robed priest in saffron-orange wrap and turban sits cross-legged, extending one arm over the flames while holding a brass plate of grains and a brass bowl with a ladle. Rudraksha-style bead bracelets and necklaces adorn the priest. Small brass pots, a kalasha-type vessel, and a potted plant sit beside the fire. Behind, a large seated audience dressed largely in white fills the background, softly out of focus. The scene reads as a fire ritual in progress.2017-02-21Night photograph of a fire ritual (homa) in a brick fire pit with tall flames rising on the left. Seated behind the pit on a silver-framed throne under an ornate fringed parasol is a smiling person in an orange shawl over dark red robes, with a red bindi and a long beaded mala around the neck. A silver bowl sits on the brick edge before them, and a silver trident stands beside the fire. On the right, a person in white dhoti and shawl stands with hands folded. Dim figures are visible in the background.2014-08-01A man in saffron-orange robes with a matching hooded shawl stands with palms pressed together in prayer near a flame, eyes lowered. He wears a heavy gold necklace and a red bindi on his forehead. In the foreground, another figure in orange robes stands at left, and an orange-clad attendant is partly visible at right. Behind them, a blurred audience in white and dark clothing sits in a hall with ceiling lights and a warm glow. The scene reads as a fire-lit ritual or homa.2014-01-05Photograph of a fire ritual indoors. A sacrificial fire burns in a square pit of yellow bricks on a striped multicoloured mat, with a kalasha-style brass vessel and offerings nearby. A man in an orange-red sannyasi robe and matching turban, with rudraksha beads, stands at the fire holding a small flower and an oil lamp, while a second man in orange sits at the left edge. Behind them a seated figure in a red-brown robe sits before a gold ornate throne-like chair; the seated figure is not identifiable beyond this role. Two women in orange saris with prayer-folded hands stand at the right beside a wooden door frame. Marigolds and a magenta cloth-covered table with white-and-yellow decorated items complete the homa setting.2018-01-13 +1 copies
