Several priests in white dhotis with gold borders, some bare-chested with rudraksha malas, pour offerings and handle vessels around the fire. On the right, a man with a long braid and bare chest stands with a bowl. Behind, devotees and attendants in orange and saffron clothing watch, and decorated umbrellas and kalasha pots with coconuts and flower garlands fill the space. A man with a crown and garlands sits at the left edge near a decorated peetha with lamps and a deity murti. The scene reads as a homa ritual during a temple inauguration.2018-04-14A photograph of a ritual at a pavilion lit by hanging decorative lamps. In the foreground, several men in white dhotis with coloured borders stand around a square fire pit of wooden frame, possibly a homa or yagna. One man in a yellow-and-orange-bordered dhoti holds a long ladle or implement over the pit, while another in white with an orange sash stands nearby. To the right sits a figure on a red cushioned seat under an ornate golden throne with sun-ray backrest; the seated person wears an orange-brown robe, a garland of white and orange flowers and a rudraksha-style necklace. Offerings of fruit, flowers, bananas, coconuts and betel leaves sit on banana-leaf trays beside the fire pit, and devotees sit on the floor in the background.2016-12-12May 09th 20162016-05-09September 09 20162016-09-09September 05 20172017-09-05 +2 copiesClose view of a square yellow-gold fire altar (homa kunda) with a large flame rising from its red-orange-lined interior.
