In the left foreground a woman in a white sari holds a silver tray with a yellow marigold garland and green leaves over a small pot wrapped in mesh. A group of about eight people stands on a dark polished stone platform around the trunk, several in saffron/orange robes and others in white dhotis and white shirts. One orange-robed figure in the centre raises an arm toward the branches, while others stand with hands folded or stand attentively. A golden tall stand or lamp post is visible at the left edge, and white-painted circular bases surround the tree. Sandy ground with decorative white kolam-style lines lies at the bottom of the frame.2009-12-27A photograph of a large ancient banyan tree with thick aerial roots and sprawling branches at an outdoor shrine. At left, a person seen from behind wears a flower garland of white and red blooms over bare shoulders and a saffron-orange dhoti, holding something near a small oil lamp or fire on the ground in front of the tree. A blue signboard at the base reads a directive about a sacred tree area. No other people are visible.2006-12-29A photograph of a large banyan tree with many aerial roots and spreading branches over a bare, sandy ground. A figure in orange robes with a white flower garland stands at left, extending an arm upward toward the branches and appearing to sprinkle or offer something. A small red bag and a low stone border sit on the ground near the trunk, with a dark hollow at the base of the tree. The person appears to be a devotee or ritual practitioner; the appearance is not clear enough to identify anyone.2006-12-30A photograph of a large, ancient banyan tree with thick aerial roots and a sprawling canopy, standing at an outdoor ashram site. In the foreground, a silver metal cooking pot on an orange and purple cloth holds many small white cloth-wrapped bundles, with flower garlands and white flowers scattered around it. To the left, several men in white dhotis sit on a stone platform in meditative or devotional posture, with one man in an orange-accented shirt. On the right, two women in white saris stand with palms pressed together in prayer, and a man in a white shirt and light trousers, hands folded, stands at the right edge. A figure in white stands near the trunk of the tree. The people are gathered in a quiet, reverent setting beneath the banyan.2011-07-15Outdoor photograph of a large banyan tree with massive spreading limbs and many aerial roots hanging and merging into thick trunks, set over reddish-brown dirt ground dappled with shade. A small blue sign reading "SILENCE PLEASE" stands near the base of the tree. Two people stand at left: a woman in an orange saffron sari with a white and red flower garland, her hands raised in front of her with incense smoke rising, and a man in white clothing beside her with his hand near her shoulder. Partial figures of another person are visible at the far left edge. The setting appears to be a quiet shrine-like grove for silent offering.2006-12-29February 20 20112011-02-20
