Close photograph of a volunteer in white clothing with a lanyard ID badge reading Volunteer, handling a heap of dried red chillies on a tray. Both hands with gold bangles and a ring sort through the chillies, which sit on a bed of red flower garlands with small lamp lights glinting among them. Dark background and white cloth at the edges. Only one person is visible, partially, and no one is identified.2011-09-28October 16 20102010-10-16 +2 copiesA man in a rust-red shawl over a red-brown robe stands beside a smoking fire, holding a brass plate of red offerings and white material above the flames. He has a shaved head, a bindi, and a gold chain. Beside the fire, a deity murti or ceremonial figure is decorated with yellow and orange marigold garlands and silver ornamentation, and a red-and-white striped platform sits in the background. The scene suggests a homa or yagna fire offering. The man's appearance is not sufficiently distinctive to confirm the identity of a person, so he is described only by role as a priest performing the offering.2013-10-08Night outdoor homa ritual on a white cloth-covered table laden with offerings: heaped dried red chilies, coconuts in a brass tray, bowls of limes and yellow lemons, a plate of white sweets, bananas, apples, pink flower petals and an orange silk cloth on a silver tray. Two women in white saris sit behind the offerings, one in white with a red mark, another in pale yellow. At right, a shaved-headed priest in white with a gold-beaded necklace tends a brass vessel with a lamp beside a white stepped altar platform. Colourful striped decorative poles and a banana plant stand in the background.2010-10-12Close-up photograph of a heaped pile of dried red chilies on a round wooden tray in the foreground. Behind it, further bowls and trays of more dried red chilies sit on a silver-toned tray, and at the right edge a person in white clothing is partly visible, out of focus. The scene appears to be part of a ritual offering preparation, with the chilies as the main subject.2010-10-16 +1 copiesClose-up photograph of a large heap of dried red chilli peppers with green stems piled on a green-rimmed leaf plate resting on an ornate embossed silver tray. A plate of white grains is partly visible at the upper left, and warm amber light falls across the background. No people are visible.2016-10-29September 21 20172017-09-21 +1 copiesA night-time homa fire ceremony at an ashram. In the centre, a rectangular fire pit blazes with dried red chillies being offered into the flames. A priest in a white dhoti and a tan turban holds a large brass plate or gong near the fire, while a shaved-headed priest in a white dhoti and red-bordered shawl kneels at the pit. Other priests in white with gold necklaces carry trays of red chillies. More men stand with palms joined in the background. A low table draped in purple cloth holds fruit, flowers and brass lamps, and a garlanded brass figure sits at the right edge. Strings of lights and green leaf garlands decorate the open pavilion.2010-10-16 +2 copiesClose-up photograph of two hands cupped together holding a mass of bright red flower petals. The fingers are slightly curled. Out of focus behind them are a bright orange-red sleeve or cloth and silver metal bowls or plates. This appears to be a ritual offering of flowers.2013-06-25March 28 20182018-03-28 +1 copiesA photograph of a decorated ritual altar. A raised arrangement of white jasmine garlands and red flower garlands frames a central mound of pink lotus petals and red blossoms, with rudraksha beads scattered among them. A small bundle tied with twine stands at the centre, and two ripe bananas lie on either side. Two small grey stone figures stand at the left and right edges. In the blurred background, a person in white with a red shawl is partly visible on the left, and golden ornamental decor fills the upper background.2016-06-30July 04 20142014-07-04 +1 copies
