July 04 20162016-07-04July 04 20162016-07-04A bare-chested man in a green turban holds a silver multi-branched aarti lamp with three flames aloft during a ritual. He wears layered gold and bead necklaces, a red and white cloth draped over his shoulder, and a green dhoti. His eyes are lowered in concentration. Blurred figures and a maroon curtain appear in the background. The setting suggests an aarti performance in a temple or ashram hall. Appearance cues are insufficient to identify him, so he is described by role as a ritual performer.2016-03-27September 28 20172017-09-28September 27 20162016-09-27 +1 copiesDecember 02 20162016-12-02 +1 copiesSeptember 28 20172017-09-28A bare-chested man in an orange head wrap sits in the foreground at night, holding a silver lamp with a lit flame in his right hand. He wears red and blue beaded malas and a striped white and yellow dhoti. Behind him, a blurred crowd of seated devotees watches, with another small brass vessel and flame at the lower edge. The setting suggests an evening ritual with oil-lamp offerings.2016-12-05A shirtless male priest with a bare upper body leans forward over a brass oil lamp with a large flame, lighting it with a red-wrapped stick held in his right hand. He wears a purple and gold patterned turban with a tassel, a white dhoti, a green and maroon waist cloth, a sacred thread, a red and gold necklace and a gold bangle. Behind him, a gold deity arch and striped yellow, blue and red hangings frame a temple altar with golden decorations, consistent with lighting lamps during a deepam ritual.2016-12-12December 29 20162016-12-29Night ritual photograph of a priest in an orange-saffron shawl and white dhoti with a red-and-gold border, wearing a blue headband, a rudraksha mala and a gold chain. He bends over a brass lamp holding a lit wick flame to a small offering stand bordered with white flowers, marigolds and red blooms. Smoke rises behind him, and another white-clad figure with a yellow cloth tends a second flame in the background. Colourful draped cloth and a bright lamp fill the open-air setting.2017-08-22December 05 20162016-12-05
