Burning wood and flames sit beneath the pot. Colourful chalk kolam designs in yellow, pink, red and blue surround the fire on the ground. Behind the pot a blue and white triangle-patterned cloth and dry grass are visible. This appears to be a pongal cooking offering, with no people visible.2022-01-15A Pongal cooking ritual photographed outdoors. A black clay pot of boiling rice sits on a stove built from three stacked orange-brown bricks over glowing embers, with milk or rice starch streaming down its sides and steam rising. Two long green sugarcane stalks stand upright on either side of the pot, and a white cloth covers the pot's rim. At left, a person in white dhoti-style clothing with a gold border kneels and uses a flat wooden stick to tend the fire, while at right an orange-robed figure stands beside the stove. Ash and scattered straw lie on the ground.2016-01-15January 14 20172017-01-14December 31 20092009-12-31December 31 20092009-12-31A Pongal cooking scene outdoors on a concrete ground. A dark clay pot sits on a fire of firewood and stacked red bricks dusted with yellow turmeric, with milk or rice boiling over its rim in a white foam and steam. A woman in a white sari with a gold border stands at right, one hand extended toward the pot, and another person in a white dhoti and shirt is partly visible at the right edge. A second clay pot and a few people in white and coloured clothing stand in the background, with white kolam-style powder patterns on the ground.2011-01-15January 15 20162016-01-15Close photo of a Pongal ritual: a clay pot filled with milk boiling over a clay stove of stacked yellow bricks, steam rising, with a fresh green banana-leaf wrapped around its rim and a sugarcane stalk standing beside it. A woman in an orange sari with a gold bangle kneels at the right edge, one hand reaching toward the pot. A wooden ladle lies on the ground and a woven basket sits in the corner. White kolam rangoli lines decorate the ground around the stove. No face of a main subject is visible, and no identifiable person is shown.2017-01-14January 15 20152015-01-15
