Close photo of a Pongal ritual: a clay pot filled with milk boiling over a clay stove of stacked yellow bricks, steam rising, with a fresh green banana-leaf wrapped around its rim and a sugarcane stalk standing beside it. A woman in an orange sari with a gold bangle kneels at the right edge, one hand reaching toward the pot. A wooden ladle lies on the ground and a woven basket sits in the corner. White kolam rangoli lines decorate the ground around the stove. No face of a main subject is visible, and no identifiable person is shown.

A person's hands with bangles and henna-like markings hold the pot's rim and sprinkle or stir its contents, while dry sticks and burning embers lie on the paved ground. Pongal, the overflowing-milk harvest offering, is visibly performed here. The image shows no clearly visible face of a person, and no identifiable person in the scene is confirmed as him.2017-01-14A clay pot of milk boiling over an open flame on a paved brick floor, as in a Pongal rice-cooking offering. The pot sits on a stone base with yellow-painted sides, wrapped with green leaves and sugarcane stalks. A wooden stirring stick rests in the milk, and the fire flickers beside it. Brass bowls holding grains, turmeric and a white ingredient lie on the right, with a stainless steel vessel and a kolam design drawn in white powder on the ground. No people are visible.2017-01-14
