A bearded man in a rust-red robe with a long gold-toned beaded necklace and rudraksha mala stands at centre, with a long dark swept-back hair and another man in white dhoti and gold-bordered shawl behind him holding a red-and-gold umbrella. A man in white shirt and dhoti pours liquid from a clay pot onto a freshly dug mound scattered with flower petals. Around them, men in saffron-orange robes and garlands stand, and older men in white dhotis observe. Multicoloured and orange-gold parasols shelter the group.2017-02-02 +1 copiesPhoto 11724902 +1 copiesJanuary 01 20072007-01-01 +1 copiesDecember 12 20112011-12-12December 13 20112011-12-13A photograph of a Pongal ritual under an open tin-roofed pavilion. A bearded man in a rust-brown dhoti and shawl, with a garland of pink and white flowers and a tilak on his forehead, pours milk from a steel vessel over a clay pot of boiling milk set on a fire pit. Three sugarcane stalks are tied into an arch above the pot, and brass bowls sit on the ground. Beside him, a younger man in white and gold-bordered dhoti with rudraksha mala and a gold chain stands watching, and a bare-chested man in orange lower cloth bends at the left. Behind them, women in orange and maroon saris with rudraksha malas stand with hands folded, and several colourful umbrellas shade the courtyard.2017-01-14
