May 07 20122012-05-07A temple puja scene under an arched golden niche. A priest in orange-saffron dhoti and shawl, with a shaved head and a beaded necklace, stands at left holding a lit oil lamp (aarti) toward the shrine, smoke rising. Inside the niche, two large deity murtis sit side by side, adorned with red and gold garments, gold crowns, necklaces and garlands of marigolds and purple flowers. In front, a white-clad altar cloth and brass lamps surround a white sculpted figure with an orange head-cloth and a garland, shown as a statue, not a living person. Brass vessels, kalasha-style pots and offering plates sit on the stone platform. A red wall and foliage appear outside.2010-11-11June 07 20162016-06-07A photograph of a ritual scene in a temple-like room with gold-carved arches and a dark red curtain. A woman with short dark hair, wearing an orange-red sari, a red and white flower garland and gold bangles, sits at a table draped in orange brocade and lights an oil lamp with a wick. Beside her is a silver kalasha-style vessel and offering trays with flowers. To the right, a deity murti pair, decorated with red and yellow flower garlands and jewelled silver adornments, sits on a gold throne against a magenta cloth, with green fabric draped below. A white floor-standing air conditioner is visible at right.2013-08-19November 11 20102010-11-11Evening puja on an open rooftop at night. A bald priest in an orange-saffron dhoti and shawl, with a rudraksha-style mala and gold chain, raises a lit camphor aarti lamp high in his right hand. Two decorated deity murtis with flower garlands sit on a green cloth-draped platform, one holding a lotus-like object. Brass oil lamps burn on the floor. To the right, several seated women in white, saffron and grey clothing watch quietly.2012-07-09A shaven-headed man in orange robes stands at left, holding a brass lamp aloft before a shrine. Behind him, two gilded deity murtis with crowns and red-and-teal silk garments stand beneath a red curtain, adorned with yellow and orange marigold garlands. In the foreground a white statue wearing an orange cloth and red garland sits beside silver ornaments, brass lamps and vessels on a tray. Smoke rises in the morning light beside a carved temple pillar, with a green hedge and fence behind. The scene suggests aarti at a temple shrine.2010-11-11July 09 20122012-07-09A photograph of a temple puja inside a shrine hall. A shaved-headed priest in an orange saffron garment with a gold chain and white ash markings on his arms raises a multi-tier silver aarti lamp with lit oil wicks toward deities decorated with garlands in yellow, orange and red. A golden bull statue and a painted blue and orange temple pillar stand behind him. A woman in an orange sari with folded hands stands at left beside a microphone stand. The scene shows aarti being performed as part of a pada-puja.2011-12-14Night-time photo of a single man in an orange-saffron dhoti and shawl, with a white tilak on his forehead and long dark hair, holding a lit camphor flame on a small silver dish toward a shrine. Behind him on a raised altar stands a deity murti with a dark face and a crown, flanked by a red-robed figure, all garlanded with yellow, red and white flower strands. A table draped in red and orange cloth holds small brass oil lamps, red flower petals, and several copies of a book with a portrait cover, placed on stacks of books. Orange curtains and potted fern arrangements frame the scene. The page indicates this is a book-related event, but the visible scene shows a puja with a flame offering.2011-03-03October 23 20122012-10-23A man in orange-saffron dhoti and shawl stands barefoot in a tiled room, holding a silver multi-wick aarti lamp with flames in his left hand and a small bell in his right. Around his neck hangs a gold-beaded necklace. He looks toward a tall painted standing deity murti with a raised arm and pointing finger, its body in pink and green with gold ornaments. Behind him is an ornate gold-toned shrine with a small seated figure and a curtained wall. A white tower fan stands at left and a carpet lies on the floor.2011-12-30
