October 18 20102010-10-18 +1 copiesNight photograph of a tall gold tiered lamp stand, a deepa stambham-style lamp tower of many curved branches, beside a coconut palm. Several men in orange and saffron dhotis, bare-chested, work on the lamp tower, one on a high rung reaching toward the top. A man with long hair, bare-chested and wearing a dark rudraksha-style neck cord, kneels at the black stone base on the right, tending the lamps. Dark foliage and palm fronds frame the scene, with a few onlookers at the lower left. The lamps are lit as part of an evening ritual lighting.2016-09-09October 18 20102010-10-18 +1 copiesJanuary 03 20082008-01-03Low-angle photo of an outdoor flagpole ritual. A tall carved wooden dhwaja stambha, wrapped with rope-like bands and topped with a small orange flag, rises against a partly cloudy blue sky with palm fronds at the right. A man in a flowing saffron-orange robe and a rudraksha mala stands at the base, holding the orange rope that runs up the pole. A second figure in orange-red cloth stands at the right edge, partly cropped. A carved figure is visible on the pole's base. A metal roof edge crosses the upper left corner.2010-10-18 +2 copiesLow-angle photo of a tall ornate copper dhwaja stambha (flagstaff) rising against a partly cloudy blue sky, with an orange-red flag at its top and an orange rope running down its length. Beside it, a man in a saffron-red unstitched robe with a rudraksha-style bead necklace stands with one hand on the pole and the rope, and wears a tilak on his forehead. On the right, a second figure in a dark red shawl stands at the edge of the frame. Carved reliefs decorate the pole's base and stone statues appear in the background, with palm fronds at the right. The scene suggests a flagpole raising ritual, with the flag's hoisting on the pole.2010-10-18 +1 copiesA tall ornate bronze flagstaff rises against a partly cloudy sky, its carved base set on a red platform. A monk in saffron-orange robes with a beaded mala necklace raises both arms and reaches up toward the rope and red flag at the top of the pole, while a second monk in orange robes stands at the right edge, looking up. Palm fronds are visible behind them. The scene suggests a flag-hoisting ceremony at a temple.2010-10-18 +1 copiesOctober 18 20102010-10-18 +1 copiesNight photograph of a tall copper flagstaff or dhwaja stambha on a white platform, with a small copper shrine-like base holding a gold seated figure.
