July 19 20132013-07-19A photograph of a fire ritual, a homa, at an outdoor ashram setting. A fire burns in a rectangular stone fire pit in the foreground, with flames and smoke rising. A shirtless priest in a green head cloth and white dhoti sits at center, holding a small brass vessel in one hand and waving a green cloth or fan with the other. Two priests flank him, also shirtless with white dhotis and yellow shawls, one with a blue-beaded necklace and sandalwood or vibhuti markings on forehead and chest. Red flowers and green leaves lie around the fire pit, with a brass pot at the right edge. Red brick buildings and greenery stand behind.2013-07-17January 02 20162016-01-02 +1 copiesJuly 08 20172017-07-08 +1 copiesA night-time homa at a wooden fire pit with a large, bright flame. A man in a white dhoti with a green turban pours offerings from a steel bowl into the fire. Around him, priests in white and orange-red cloths wear rudraksha malas, and one bald priest has a white tilak on his forehead. A green-clad figure stands at the right edge, and brass offerings and a plantain leaf sit nearby. No one is clearly identified as a person by appearance cues.2015-01-04Outdoor fire ritual (homa) at a red-walled pavilion beside water. A green-turbaned priest in a gold-beaded rudraksha necklace, bare-chested with a sacred thread and orange-bordered dhoti, pours from a copper vessel onto a fire pit built of stacked brick-like blocks decorated with yellow flowers and coloured rangoli. Beside him, a bare-chested man with long swept-back hair and a gold beaded necklace sits in orange and white clothing, and a younger man in white dhoti and orange shawl with a rudraksha mala holds a red apple among flower-decorated offerings. Standing behind, two men in white shirts and white dhotis fold their hands in prayer. Copper vessels, flowers and marigold garlands fill the foreground. Water and trees show behind the pavilion.2016-03-05 +1 copiesNight outdoor fire ritual. In the foreground a bare-chested male priest with a green head wrap, green and white cloth, rudraksha mala and sacred ash on his forehead sits with eyes closed, hands near a flame. Beside him another bare-chested man in green and white cloth tends a fire with a ladle over a copper vessel. Behind them, seated devotees in white clothes and red shawls watch, including a woman in white with a red lanyard. Flames rise in the centre; the scene reads as a homa or yagna.2016-07-04 +1 copiesJuly 19 20132013-07-19July 08 20172017-07-08Night homa at a fire pit: a shirtless man in a green turban and white dhoti sits cross-legged, holding a lit oil lamp and a small ritual dish over a square fire pit where flames rise and white flower petals are scattered.
