Priests in white dhotis and shawls with gold or maroon borders sit cross-legged during a ritual, one in the foreground holding a brass bell-shaped handbell aloft in his right hand while another clasps his hands in anjali mudra at the right edge. Brass lamps, a small copper vessel, a pink tray and a plastic container sit on the floor before them. Behind, a crowd of mostly boys and young men, some in pink and checked shirts, watch, several holding lit oil lamps. The scene suggests a puja in progress.

The man second from left has white and red sacred markings on his forehead and arms and wears a red sash, with a rudraksha mala. The man third from left wears a long gold-bead necklace and a rudraksha mala. The man on the far right has red tilak on his forehead and a rudraksha mala. Behind them are wooden crates and a white tent wall. A partially visible person stands at the far left edge.

The man on the left has a shaved head and holds a lamp in his right hand while wearing gold bangles and a rudraksha mala. The man in the centre has a white forehead marking and white paste on his arm, holding a lit lamp and chanting. The man on the right, wearing spectacles and gold bangles, holds a brass lamp aloft. A group of shaved-headed men in white dhotis and shawls sit cross-legged on orange mats during a ritual, with brass plates, small oil lamps and a clear plastic container in front of them. Several wear rudraksha malas. The man in the centre foreground wears white clothes with a red-and-gold border, a tilak on his forehead, and round glasses, and holds his hands together. On the right, a man in saffron-orange robes with a bare shoulder sits with eyes closed and a rudraksha mala around his neck. Other men sit behind them, some reciting or looking down. The page describes a Karthikai Deepam lamp-lighting, but the visible scene shows only the ritual seating and objects, with no identifiable a person depicted with confidence.
