December 29 20102010-12-29A prostrate devotee lies flat on the stone floor of an open pavilion, arms outstretched, head turned to one side, on a leopard-print and dark mat. The prone figure wears saffron-orange garments with gold trim, a gold ornament on the head, and dark hair in a bun. Around them stand a crowd of about twenty people in saffron and white: sannyasis in orange robes and rudraksha malas, men in white dhotis and shawls, and women in orange and blue saris, several with palms pressed together in namaskar. A man holds a bunch of flowers and another stands with a phone raised. Pillars and a sunlit roof edge frame the scene, a traditional ritual of reverence performed before a gathering.2012-09-12December 20 20112011-12-20A photograph of a devotee prostrating full length on a floor covered with colourful kolam rangoli designs in white, red, yellow, green and blue. The prostrate person wears an orange top and orange cloth and has long dark hair. Around them stands a crowd of people: several in white dhotis and cream or yellow shawls, and several sannyasi-style figures in orange robes with rudraksha or bead necklaces, one holding a flower garland. A man in white clothes stands at the right edge. The setting appears to be an outdoor temple courtyard.2010-01-08A photograph of a devotee in an orange sari-style garment lying prostrate face-down on a stone floor decorated with coloured rangoli-style patterns in green, yellow, blue and red. Near her, a young man in an orange robe kneels with his hands joined in prayer. Around them, a crowd stands with palms pressed together or hands held in reverence; several women wear white saris with orange shawls, one woman wears a red sari, and a man in white with an orange shawl and a red tilak stands at the right edge. The setting appears to be a temple courtyard with a stone floor, consistent with a ritual salutation or padanamaskar.2008-08-02A person in an orange robe lies prostrate face-down on a colourful floor kolam decorated with red, green, yellow and blue floral motifs. Around them stand a crowd of onlookers in orange sannyasi robes with rudraksha malas and garlands, and others in white dhotis and cream or yellow shawls. A man in a white dhoti and wristwatch stands at right, hands joined in reverence. The scene suggests a devotional prostration during a temple visit. The prostrate figure's appearance is not clear enough to attribute to a specific person, so the role is described as a devotee.2010-01-08December 30 20072007-12-30January 08 20102010-01-08December 20 20112011-12-20August 17 20122012-08-17A photograph of a crowd gathered outdoors at a ceremony. A woman with long dark hair, wearing an orange saffron sari with gold borders, sits cross-legged on an orange cloth with her palms pressed together and her face lowered in prayer. Around her, men in orange saffron dhotis and shawls stand with hands folded, and a shaved-headed man in white with gold border and rudraksha mala kneels with joined palms in the foreground beside a man in orange with a gold ceremonial necklace. Further back, a man in a pink shirt holds a camera and other devotees in white dhotis stand. The setting appears to be a public roadside or street gathering.2010-12-29February 13 20132013-02-13
