November 11 20112011-11-11A photograph of an outdoor ritual on sandy ground under a tree. A long-haired man seated cross-legged in a white dhoti and a gold-bordered shawl wears a dark rudraksha mala with a gold ornament and a yellow flower in his hair, eyes closed and hands in a mudra. Beside him a younger man in a white kurta sits with palms pressed together in prayer. Standing figures in white clothing are behind them. In front lie brass vessels, a kalasha-style pot, a bowl of pink and yellow flowers, a small brass lamp and a white-draped low table at right. Swamiji candidate (probable): the seated long-haired man wears a rudraksha mala, gold ornament and shawl, consistent with an appearance-based cue, and is leading the ritual.2005-01-24A photograph of an outdoor homa fire ritual in a courtyard with a plain whitewashed wall behind. A white-clad priest in a white dhoti and shawl with a yellow sacred thread, a tilak on his forehead and a rudraksha-style mala, sits before a raised ritual altar of brick-like blocks decorated with flower petals and yellow turmeric marks, pouring ghee from a bowl into the altar with a ladle while speaking into a microphone on a stand. Two men in white shirts sit with folded hands, a man in a dark shirt sits behind, and an older man in white with folded hands sits at left. Heaps of wood and offerings lie at left, an orange cloth bundle sits on the mat, and banana leaves, flower garlands, brass plates, kalasha pots and a blue cloth cover the right side.September 23 20072007-09-23A woman in an orange sari-style garment sits cross-legged on a concrete platform in an open rice field, tending a small fire of stacked white bricks with a pinch of offering in her hand. To the right, a large gilt-framed portrait of a smiling man in orange robes and a white bead mala is garlanded with red, yellow and white flowers, flanked by a red-and-blue kalasha-like vessel. Green paddy and palm trees stretch behind.2009-01-21July 13 20032003-07-13July 20 20102010-07-20Outdoor homa-style fire ritual on a dusty ground.
