September 02 20172017-09-02September 02 20172017-09-02A photograph of an outdoor ritual site on a concrete floor: a large heap of grey-black ash and burnt material surrounds a small stepped stone fire pit with a metal bowl set in its centre. At the upper left, a brass oil lamp stands on a striped red, green and white cloth, and small dishes of coloured powder sit at the top right beside a white kolam design. No people are visible, so this is a view of the ash-covered ritual fire pit after the process.2017-09-02November 14 20052005-11-14December 30 20072007-12-30November 14 20052005-11-14Close view of a Siddha Aushada preparation for the Pudamgaatal process: a black clay or stone vessel rests on a dark stepped base surrounded by glowing charcoal and burnt cow-dung cakes on a grey tiled floor. Dark grey-black ash heaps inside the vessel, with scattered pink flower petals nearby. A yellow-painted ledge on the left holds thin bundled sticks and white-dusted petals, and a small silver-lidded container sits behind. Blurred figures in orange and rust robes kneel in the background.2017-08-31 +1 copiesJuly 01 20152015-07-01December 17 20062006-12-17November 14 20052005-11-14Outdoor photograph of a cremation-site ritual on open flat ground. A bare-backed man in a saffron-orange dhoti, long dark hair falling down his back, stands at the left facing a man in a white kurta and white dhoti who holds a brass vessel and pours from a small brass pot. Fine ash and smoke rise from a large ash-covered fire pit ringed with bricks in the foreground. Spectators sit and stand around, including a man in a white shirt sitting cross-legged, an older man in a checked shirt with arms folded, a seated woman in a blue sari at left, a man in a pink shirt sitting at right, and a man in a white shirt and mundu at the back. A silver SUV is parked behind, with glass bottles and a brass bucket on the ground nearby. a person appearance cannot be confirmed from this image.2005-11-14A white-washed brick homa fire pit stands on reddish earth, with red-orange smears and dabs of kumkum or turmeric on its sides. In front, a large white rangoli kolam with interlaced loops and tapering curls is drawn on the ground, bordered by white double-line geometric patterns. No people are visible in the scene.2006-12-17
