Outdoors in a palm-lined compound, a row of seated sadhus and devotees sit in meditation on mats and cushions around shallow circular fire pits filled with ash, with wood logs stacked behind them and smoke rising. In the foreground a man in saffron-orange robes and a long rudraksha mala sits eyes closed with hands folded in his lap, a red tilak on his forehead, on an orange cushion beside a brass vessel. Behind him more people in white and saffron-orange and yellow shawls sit in rows, and a few small white structures and a thatched hut appear in the background.

Outdoor photograph of a final ceremony on an open grassy field with hills and palms behind. In the foreground, a long-haired figure in saffron robes and a gold necklace kneels at a brick-lined pit of grey ash and charcoal, placing a small clay pot into the ashes. Three saffron-robed young men sit on the grass behind, with brass vessels, small clay pots and offerings set on a cloth. Several men in white dhotis and shirts stand watching, and a man in white clothes stands at the right. Tall bamboo poles with orange cloth stand in the background.

Outdoors on a rocky, grassy hillside, a long-haired man in a saffron-orange robe and a white-and-red flower garland stands barefoot on freshly turned red earth. He wears a rudraksha mala and a red mark on his forehead, and he holds the edge of his robe with one hand. Beside him, a man in a white shirt, white trousers and a dark beaded necklace stands with his hands at his sides. Behind them, several people in white dhotis and kurtas walk and stand near a tent with white corrugated sheeting and bamboo poles. A cameraman in white stands at left.

A groundbreaking ritual at an outdoor site under a striped purple-and-white canopy with flower garlands. A person in saffron-orange robes, an orange turban and a white-and-red flower garland kneels and presses a stone or brick into a sand-filled foundation pit lined with coloured floral rangoli. Around them, men in white shirts and dhotis with rudraksha malas stand watching, and an older bearded man in white and red garland stands behind. A brass pot sits on the right, and offering trays and lamps are set on the ground beyond the pit.

A photograph of a homa being performed at night. A figure in saffron-orange robes and an orange head wrap sits cross-legged behind a stone fire pit, palms pressed together in prayer, with a rudraksha mala draped over the robes and a microphone stand before him. Tall flames rise from the pit, with flowers and offerings beside it. Behind him hang floral garlands, a decorated ceremonial fan and a latticed window. Several seated men in white dhotis and shirts sit in prayer nearby, and another standing man in white is partly visible. The a person cues are the saffron robe, orange head wrap and rudraksha mala, and he is the person conducting the homa. Watermarked archive photo text omitted.

Night outdoor photograph of a funeral-style rite beside a pyre-like mound of straw and firewood. In the foreground, a woman in orange robes with a necklace stands with hands pressed in namaste, facing the mound. The mound is covered with yellow and orange marigold garlands and flowers. Behind, a group of men in white dhotis and shirts stand in a line with hands folded; several hold silver plates with yellow flowers and white offerings. A man in orange robes with a beaded mala stands near the centre holding a plate of white flowers. The ground is reddish earth with coconut husks and small offerings at the lower left.

Outdoors on a dirt ground near a stone shrine and trees, a shirtless man in white dhoti bends forward over a fresh earthen mound strewn with yellow and orange flower petals and a pale yellow turmeric-dusted area, offering to the grave with incense smoke rising. Behind him stand several men in white dhotis and shirts, one in a blue checked shirt, and a bearded man in a long rust-brown robe with long hair and a wooden rudraksha-style necklace holding his hands together beside a small boy in a patterned shirt. To the left, saffron-robed sannyasis hold large ornate orange and red parasols with tassels, and a woman in orange with a garland stands among them. Scene suggests a funeral rite at a graveside; the bearded man in the brown robe has long swept hair and distinctive ceremonial adornments, but his identity cannot be confirmed from appearance.
