A photograph of an outdoor ritual site on a concrete floor: a large heap of grey-black ash and burnt material surrounds a small stepped stone fire pit with a metal bowl set in its centre. At the upper left, a brass oil lamp stands on a striped red, green and white cloth, and small dishes of coloured powder sit at the top right beside a white kolam design. No people are visible, so this is a view of the ash-covered ritual fire pit after the process.

Close view of a Siddha Aushada preparation for the Pudamgaatal process: a black clay or stone vessel rests on a dark stepped base surrounded by glowing charcoal and burnt cow-dung cakes on a grey tiled floor. Dark grey-black ash heaps inside the vessel, with scattered pink flower petals nearby. A yellow-painted ledge on the left holds thin bundled sticks and white-dusted petals, and a small silver-lidded container sits behind. Blurred figures in orange and rust robes kneel in the background.

A square fire pit built of white cement blocks sits on bare red earth, with burning logs and flames inside and smoke rising. A brass bowl with yellow liquid and a long ladle rests on the edge, and a striped mat holds brass plates with flowers, fruit, turmeric and small offering dishes. A rectangular brick-lined fire pit sits on bare reddish-brown earth. Its white and brown bricks enclose a bed of charred black ash and burnt sticks. A small terracotta pot stands at the right corner, and sparse grass grows nearby. No people are visible.

Overhead photograph of a round, flat metal or stone plate or tray covered with grey-white ash and small pieces of charred wood, with pale wisps of smoke rising across the lower left. The surrounding surface is a plain white cloth or floor.

Outdoor photograph of an empty ritual seat prepared on the ground for a paadapuja-style offering. A raised circular mound of earth is ringed with white and black ash, decorated with white kolam-style floral and swirl patterns and small orange and yellow marks. On top sits a woven straw mat with an orange square cushion, a small brass kalasha or pot to the right, and a red dot. A straw mat runs from the left edge toward the seat, and a red cloth lies at the upper right. No people are visible.

A photograph of a long rectangular fire pit dug into reddish-brown earth, filled with grey ash and glowing embers, with small flames flickering over partly burnt logs. Thin wooden sticks lie across the rim at the top and right. No people are visible; the pit appears prepared for a fire-walking ritual.

A photograph of a Siddha purification process: a flat-bottomed metal vessel on a stone block holds glowing red embers beneath stacked dark cowdung cakes, with smoke rising. Behind it a wooden platform is dotted with red flower petals and a silver tray sits at the right edge. Blurred figures in rust-orange clothing are at the top left and top right, with hands visible at the top right; no faces are clearly shown. The scene depicts a homa-style fire with cowdung smoke used for purifying preparations.
