A night-time photograph on a paved brick ground. In the centre, a figure in a saffron-orange robe with a saffron head wrap and a long rudraksha mala kneels beside a brass plate of bananas, flowers and offerings, while a person in white clothes sits beside them. Loose white and orange flowers lie on the bricks. On the right, a bearded man in an all-white kurta sits on a woven mat with his hands resting on his knees, and several people in white stand behind him. Bamboo poles run along the left edge.

A seated figure in saffron-orange robes with long hair, a red bindi, a sleeveless orange garment and layered gold necklaces sits with palms pressed together in namaskar during a pada puja. A woman in a white sari kneels at left, holding a lit oil lamp toward him, while a man in orange robes with folded hands sits at right. Before them stand brass vessels, a plate of fruit including oranges and apples, flower petals and a silver kalasha on a white-draped table. The setting is a tiled wall with a bed of blue cloth beneath.

Night photograph of a small outdoor puja on a bare ground surface beside a dim building. A standing figure in an orange saffron robe with long, swept-back dark hair holds a wooden staff and bends over a small oil lamp or offering. A seated woman in white clothing with a white shawl cups her hands toward the flame. A seated man in white clothes with an orange shawl and a rudraksha mala sits at right. Brass and clay vessels, a brass lamp, and newspaper-wrapped offerings lie on the ground in front. Plastic chairs stand against the wall behind. The person in orange has distinctive long hair, saffron robe and a staff, but the cues are not conclusive enough to name him, so the label is uncertain.

A photograph of a devotee in a white kurta kneeling and bowing his head while a seated figure in saffron-orange robes and an orange turban places a hand on his forehead. The blessing figure wears a long rudraksha mala and holds a metal tray with offerings. Behind them, several people in white garments stand or kneel in a dim gathering, and one bearded man in white is visible at the top. The scene has the feel of a darshan or blessing at a festival setting.

2002 - Glimpses From Various Programs

Night ritual photograph at a temple-like shrine. A shaved-headed priest in white dhoti and shirt with an orange shawl holds a lit camphor flame on a metal aarti plate raised overhead. Behind him a crowd in white clothes stands with palms pressed together in namaskar, and a woman in a green sari is among them. In the foreground a woman in an orange saffron garment and rudraksha mala sits with hands folded in prayer, and a man in an orange shawl sits beside her. Carved stone pillars with a red cloth hang at right, with brass pots and a bowl on a ledge. A pedestal fan and a concrete block wall form the background.

A night photograph of a ritual at an outdoor setting. A figure in saffron-orange robes with long dark hair and a large round earring sits cross-legged on a woven mat, holding a lit flame or lamp and gesturing with the other hand. Nearby, several people in white ritual clothes sit on the ground, some holding small flames or oil lamps, while others hold books. Brass plates hold fruit, flowers, a kettle-shaped vessel and small cups, and a candle burns on the mat. A visible fire flame rises near the centre. The scene is lit mainly by the flames and lamps against darkness.

Night photograph of a seated group on a dark tiled floor beside a low brick wall, with a woven striped mat in front. A man in an orange wrap and orange head cloth, with a rudraksha mala at his neck, sits with eyes lifted and hands at his lap, a small heap of white flowers and a tray before him. Beside him a bearded man in white kurta and dhoti sits with palms joined and head tilted upward. At right another man in white clothes presses palms together, and a plastic water bottle sits on the floor. Scattered flowers lie on the wet ground.
