Night photograph of an outdoor ritual beside dense green bamboo and leafy trees. A bare-chested man with a shaved head, wearing a saffron-orange shawl over his shoulders, a rudraksha mala around his neck and a white dhoti, holds a lit flame or arati lamp toward two blurred figures in the foreground. The flame flares bright orange against the darkness. The man has the appearance of a person, though his face is partly in profile and the image is dim. He holds a brass aarti lamp with a bright flame raised in his right hand and a brass bell in his left, and wears a gold necklace and a rudraksha-style chain with a pendant, with a white vibhuti mark on his forehead. Dried palm fronds and green leaves hang overhead beneath a decorated canopy, and smoke drifts at left. Several seated people in yellow garments are visible at the lower edge, and a man in white stands behind him. The setting looks like an outdoor homa or puja area.2009-09-26Night photograph of an aarti at a large banyan tree with dense hanging aerial roots. In the foreground, a bare-chested man with long swept-back dark hair, a red rudraksha mala and gold bangles holds a silver lamp with a bright flame that sends smoke upward. Behind him, a second man in white clothing stands near the flame. The dark background and warm firelight make the tree roots stand out.2013-04-24August 17 20062006-08-17August 17 20062006-08-17A blurred night photograph of a standing figure in a flowing red-orange robe, holding a lit torch or flaming object in front of the torso, flames rising near the face and head. Hands are extended outward; the flame is the brightest point of the image. To the left, a seated person in orange clothing sits beside a small wooden railing with a few lamps; another seated figure in orange sits at the right edge. The setting is dark with a few blurred background figures and a stone or concrete platform underfoot. Whether the standing figure is a particular person cannot be determined from the image.2006-08-22November 24 20152015-11-24
