Street scene in a town with a green and yellow public bus on the left and several men riding motorcycles, one in a white shirt and white dhoti. On the right, an ornately decorated golden-brown vehicle with carved panels and a loudspeaker on its roof carries a large banner with portrait photographs and Tamil text, and smaller portrait posters are displayed on its side. Shop signs and utility poles line the roadside under trees.

A photograph of a street procession in Tamil Nadu. A large ornate golden ratha-style float with carved floral and mythical-bird motifs dominates the frame, topped by a framed portrait of a bearded man in a white turban and white garments. Several men in white dhotis and shirts walk beside the float along a palm-lined road, one gesturing with an outstretched arm, and an older man with a plaid cloth over his shoulder stands at left. A temple gateway with stone figures is visible at right. The float carries Tamil and English banners, and the vehicle bears a Tamil Nadu registration plate.

A street photograph of a gilded wooden temple chariot (ratha) parked at a roadside temple in Pondicherry, Tamil Nadu. A large deity murti sits in the open chariot, garlanded with flower strands and draped in red and green cloth; a man in white dhoti with an orange shawl stands on the chariot beside it. On the left, a cluster of about ten men in white dhotis and orange shawls, one elderly woman in a purple sari, and a bare-chested man in a checked lungi stand on the roadside. Behind them stand white stone sculptures and a temple gopuram-style structure. A banner on the chariot shows a figure and Tamil text, and a panel below shows small photographs with Tamil captions.

A green and white striped public city bus is seen on a street, its side door open with passengers standing on the steps and one man in a light shirt holding the door rail. Passengers sit behind the bus windows, and a tall orange flag on a pole stands at left beside a gold-patterned decorated cart or float with wiring. Buildings with balconies line the background street. The scene reads as a roadside procession moment in Tamil Nadu.

A street procession in Pondicherry, Tamil Nadu, with a decorated ratha canopy at left holding two metal deity murtis of a male and female figure, garlanded with orange and yellow flower strands. Men in white shirts and white dhotis walk alongside; one man at right wears a red-and-gold shawl and a blue rosette badge and raises his hand toward his face. A green bus passes behind. A portrait printed on a poster held up in the crowd shows a smiling man with a white turban and dark embroidered jacket with a gold necklace; this is a printed image, not a physical person. A red flag and a white banner are visible. The canopy carries Tamil text and a temple-style signboard.

A photograph of a crowd of devotees gathered around an open-backed vehicle decorated as a mobile shrine. Inside the vehicle, two deity murtis are dressed with garlands and flower decorations, and a framed portrait of a woman in orange robes is mounted on the side panel. Men in white shirts and dhotis, some with rudraksha malas, press forward, with one man in the centre holding a mobile phone. A woman in white with a red bindi stands near the vehicle, and a woman in orange robes with a white flower garland stands at the vehicle's side. Buses and trees line the street behind them.

A photograph of a procession on a street lined with onlookers. A seated figure in a red-and-gold garment and a long beaded necklace sits under a small canopy on an open orange vehicle. A standing man in white shirt and trousers holds a long pole with a red flag on the vehicle roof. Red and orange flags are attached along the vehicle sides. Spectators in pink, blue, green and striped shirts lean on the vehicle and watch, with trees and a telecom tower behind.
