In July 2019, Kanchi Nithyananda Sarvajnapeetam collaborated with Shrikailasa Uniting Nations for Nutritious Food and Hunger free world and offered Annadanam to more than a lakh devotees who gathered to have the divine's sacred darshan.

KAILASA's annadanam continued for 15 days, with every aspect being micromanaged by The SPH JGM Nithyananda Paramashivam, reaching out to over a lakh devotees who flocked the temple. Even after the conclusion of the Vaibhavam, we reached out to feed all the workers and police officials who were working on the field to clear the arrangements made for the festival.

This week the United Nations Secretary warned that without international assistance, hunger rates in dozens of countries will soar.

Reportedly, war and sanctions have drastically impacted exports from both Russia and Ukraine who supply 30 percent of global wheat exports, as well as more than half of the world’s sunflower oil - causing food prices to soar to record levels around the world. According to the United Nations, the conflict could cause between 7 - 13 million - more people to go hungry around the world, far from the armed conflict itself. Compounding this food shortage is food prices that have already risen greatly due to pandemic-related supply chain issues.

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka is facing their worst-ever economic crisis, triggering food and fuel shortages and protests. In the past three months, fuel prices have increased three times, while essential food items have doubled; the country is also seeing shortages of fuel and even baby milk.

Reportedly, the country’s foreign exchange reserves have fallen to crisis levels, and is now on the verge of sovereign debt default, and is seeing protests alongside hours-long cues to buy fuel amidst sky-rocketing prices and 25% food inflation. Reports forecast the Russia-Ukraine conflict could mean less bread on the table in Palestine, Lebanon, Yemen, and elsewhere...where millions already struggle to survive. The region is heavily dependent on wheat from the two countries; any shortages of the staple food has potential to bring unrest.

Reports out of China show food markets empty and ransacked, as well as fighting over raw food supplies itself.
